Hey guys, I noticed that the pandas have an insane mark up. Something to the effect of $5 and up above spot. Do they retain their value, meaning can they typically be sold back for above spot? Or are there other factors at play which attribute to such a high mark up (ie, limited print, exporting fees from china, etc etc)?

Well lets see, Provident's price for a 2017 cash is $24.50 with a shown buy back price of 20.71 Well above spot.

There are some that have varieties and there are some rare low mintage sets.

This one will sell for $75-150 on ebay. Or try the super low mint gold. This is at 5000

This will sell for upwards of of $300 so double spot price.

I was told by my LCS that they are on the grey sheets and the older dates tend to price higher than spot and whatever premiums.

They do hold their value well but they one of the most counterfeited coins out there. Only buy them from a well respected dealer.

The silver and gold pandas issued in 2016 and after are not an ounce. They are 30 grams, rather than the 31.1 grams of a troy ounce.

The top silver one is not a coin, but a medal, so the collecting base is a bit narrower.

Those and the lunar series sell for crazy prices. I've seen a 2 ounce Lunar series coin that sells for $1000, an impressive $500 an ounce. Whether that will continue indefinitely, or they'll crash when collector interest inevitably focuses somewhere else, remains to be seen. But right now that's definitely the only reliable way to make profit in silver, buy Chinese coins early each year, hold, and re-sell a year or two later for 50% or more profit to the bullion dealer you got it from, or even higher profits on eBay.

I would do that except I don't really like bullion coins. The idea of spending a year or two trying to baby a coin from toning (and not being able to touch it), and sending it to a TPG for grading, is not my cup of tea as an ancients collector.

Some of the older Panda coins go well above $100 for an ounce of silver.

China silver panda is one of the best coin and design so far. It came with capsule to protect the coin. It is a proof like coin. The problem right now is so many fake one. And the mintage go skyrocket to 10,000,000.
As I observed. 2017 is a bad year for bullion producers. See american eagle and australia Perth mint. The sales is down so much. I think 2017 China silver panda sales figure might only be around 3,000,000 to 4,000,000 area.

That is still a high mintage for the series.

I have one silver panda among several other 1 OZ silver coins, they are cool
But from an investment strategy stand point not sure if there even close to the
Top, you always one to get silver coins as close to spot as possible, with the high
Premiums you have to pay for the recouping the premium maybe on the difficult
    side just my two cents.

I agree. Silver pandas are my answer to someone asking me what would I recommend as a "bullion" coin with highest chance of going up. They really are only semi-bullion, with built in numismatic demand, more so than any other coin that initially sells based upon bullion.

Hi guys, sorry for the "thread hijack" but I did start this thread, so it's only a partial hijack!! ;) Is a 300,000 mintage considered low? The 2018 koala's are on preorder and they have a 300,000 mintage. Not a fan of paying 3.69 over spot, but like panda's, the older versions seem to rise in value. And the buyback on provident is $2.00 above spot. What do you think? Are the koala's "semi-bullion" along the lines of the panda's? thx

I would say the koalas are less desirable in this way than the pandas. I have bought many older koalas over the years with no premium, so I do not think the market is as strong for the pandas. Just my opinion.

There are some kooks that are more than billion and could be a good play. I’d buy them over the koalas. Look at the kiwi it can be a good one. The thing that you need to remember is that there is a tremendous shift in wealth to a incredibly large population in China. At times that has created an incredible demand on the pandas as they want to bring them back home. Just look at what the master sets have done to the gold panda. I think one day that will happen on the silver panda as it will be a cheaper alternative.

Yes, 2018 China silver panda looks unique. I also like 2010, 2013 and 2017. 2013 with three pandas.
