Today I bought a silver bar from the Prospector's website. I have no idea why because I'm exclusively an ancient coins collector, but somehow I got an itch for a poured/cast silver bar. This is what I got. Not sure if I'll stop there, or if I'll try to collect the entire series (ie. 1,2,3...up to 10 ounces, or if I'll just get a mix of Prospectors logo, skull logo, and Don't Tread on me logo in different bar sizes. All I know was that I accidentally watched a YouTube video of someone reviewing these cool poured/cast bars and I got the itch to buy one and see what the fuzz is all about. I'll post an individual picture when I get it in the mail. Anyway, feel free to post your Prospector's bars.
Wow, that's a nice chunk of silver. I did use to have a few Engelhard bars and JM bars back when I was still big into US coin collecting, but we are talking about 10+ years ago. Since then I've not collected any bullion or bars. I figured a 10oz is a cheap enough risk that if I don't like it or can't get into it, then it should be fairly easy to sell. But who knows, maybe I'll get hooked on it and start buying other bars, and become a part-time stacker. However, my ancients collection will naturally continue to come first.
This is what got me started. Bars, Eagles, generic rounds, etc. My Wife and I wandered into a Coin Store, curious what they were charging for Silver Eagles. All of the coins just blew me away. That experience led me to CoinTalk. I'm done buying bullion, I've never sold anything, I just hoard it away. Lol. I'm into my US type set, I love my South Africa coins, but I can see that the majority of my future purchases will be Ancient!!!

HAC mint Bison bullion- They have some really neat hand poured bars.
@Nathan401 I couldn't help myself. I watched another YouTube video and I ended up ordering one of each of these bars. So that's a total of 16 ounces on the way. I really ought to stop watching silver stacking videos before I discover another company making cool poured bars. I think Ill get a few more Monarch Metals and Prospector's bars next month. In fact, I'd love to have enough 1, 2, and 3 ounce bars to make a piramid out of each, and then work on building piramid out of 5 and 10 ounce bars. After I'm done with that in a year or so, I might try to find a company like Scottsdale Mint and work on gathering a piramid's worth of their 20 ounce bars. I think stacking is cooler when you have at least 10 bars of each type to stack in piramid formation. All of that should put me in 2-3 years at around 600 to 700 ounces...at which time I'll probably stop buying (for investment anyway). Should be doable if I cut back a little on ancient coins (maybe get 2 a month instead of 5). I already have a boatload of ancients, so cutting back to 2 a month may not be a bad idea anyway. However, once I meet my investment needs the collector in me will probably want to buy the occasional limited edition bar or silver skull from one of these companies. But those are more collector stuff than investment stuff as they sell for a bit of a premium and are gimmicky (though they do seem to maintain their collectors value in the secondary market.)
I know, I love silver. The problem is that until now all the silver I own is in the form of about 100 ancient silver coins ranging in weight from 1gm to 17gm, and ranging in age from 1,500 years to 2,600 years old. They are beautiful, but they are not an investment in the strictest sense. I can guarantee you that of silver skyrocketed tomorrow to $1000, I wouldn't sell a single one of my precious coins...even if the melt value was much more than Numismatics value. How could you ever get rid of one of these beauties? So yeah, I think bars are the perfect invesent tool for me....so if I have to sell any of them in the future, or exchange them for gold bullion, it won't be a big deal. Mind you, once I start to chase after Limited Edition poured artistic bars, I doubt I'll see those as an investment either, but rather as collectables. But a regular poured bar like the ones I just purchased from Prospector's and Monarch Metals I have no problem seeing as bullion and treating them as such.
