Hey guys, I thought I'd throw this out here and see what responses I get. I sold an old Jeep yesterday that we had as a project/third vehicle. Now I have about $2,000 that I was wanting to put towards gold. I have been buying gold for a while now, but wanted to see what you all would buy if you were in this situation. Just buying for fun, not trying to flip it, I will hold onto it long term like all my other PM. IRA's are all funded, savings account is solid, other investments are good for me and my wife too, no debt. So this is just some gold/fun money I was wanting to spend. Not a fan of slabbed coins though I do have a few. I've been really into Pre-1933 lately as well as old European coins too. Suggestions?
Do you have a Mexican 50 Peso yet? Those are really cool and over an ounce. I think a lot of the older Mexican coins were beautifully designed. If you have some Pre-1933 US and old European, then this would be a great fit. Plus you can find them for around melt with a small premium if you look. Here's an image of one from the NGC website.
IDK but if you want to have fun go panning! use the money to pick up a small lease. Now that would be fun.
I like that stuff too, don't have the angel yet, have a few roosters and some Austrian coins tho, that's a nice pickup you got there
I am a fan of the classic Indian Head gold pieces. There seems to be a good market for them on resale.
I would buy a mixture of old European gold. In fact, that is what I do when I have that much spare cash. Currently spot price on Sovereigns is $301, 20 Francs & 30 Lire is $240, 20 Marks is $295. All can be got for less than 10% above spot and hold their premium.
Not a bad choice. There are a lot of PCGS common date common grade that basically sell as bullion where you have assurance it's what it is
I agree. I like the old gold because it is recognizable and as long as you get a common close to melt, which is easy to find nowadays, you could either pan a profit with rising gold prices or possible numismatic raise in prices. I found these for $50 over spot for the raw 1904 double eagle and $75 for the slabbed double eagle.
I am just starting to get into the sovereigns as well. I was able to find proofs for $23 over spot and some of the older dates are semi-numismatic.
