Just a shot out to the Dark Side, I have one soaking, I am not sure what it is, Bronze, copperish, It's covered in what I think might be bronze disease. I haven't photo'd the process but I will, and keep a log of the progress. Maybe if I could get some help with what it is supposed to look like! It would be much appreciated! But for now a modern, photo'd from the Dark Side
Haha not quite dark enough my friend So if I understand you correctly you are looking for some resources on identifying and treating bronze disease? These links were shared by TIF on a thread a while back and might be useful. http://www.crescentcitycoinclub.org/seminars_and_programs/Bronze Disease.pdf http://www.accla.org/actaaccla/bronzediseasetherapy.html http://www.bitsofhistory.com/info/bronze_disease.html http://www.collector-antiquities.co...estoring-and-conservation/bronze-disease.html http://www.forumancientcoins.com/numiswiki/view.asp?key=Bronze Disease Wouldn't hurt to post a photo of your coin for others to weigh in as well.
I was photo'ing die markers for an RPM variety. This photo was a result of focusing on the Cracked Skull!
This is 1 week alternating between distilled water and olive oil. Brushing and a little picking, I did not take a photo of the original, it was heavily corroded, Would this be considered an FTR?
Severina I sure want to see how this progresses, out of curiousity. I have a couple of crusties that I've debated cleaning or not. Good luck
No. FTR stands for "FEL TEMP REPARATIO." Yours is a denarius of Severina, the wife of Aurelian. It has the VENVS FELIX reverse. Here's mine: Severina, AD 270-275 Roman billon denarius, 2.15 g, 19.3 mm Rome mint, 11th emission, AD 275 Obv: SEVERINA AVG, diademed and draped bust right Rev: VENVS FELIX, Venus standing left, holding apple and scepter. No officina marks. Refs: RIC 6; MER/RIC 1841F; Cohen 14; RCV 11710 var.
Yours is MER/RIC temp #1895, from the Rome mint, 12th emission, September – November 275. You can see other examples of this coin here at the MER/RIC site.
Very nice coin @Pickin and Grinin! It doesn't look like you have an issue with bronze disease (don't see any powdery green) so I would just let it soak for another few weeks and keep doing what you are doing. I will be interested to see how it turns out. Great score on a acquiring a coin of Severina (especially a denarius!). She was a fascinating historical figure. Here is my example of her. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/heroes-of-the-third-century-aurelian-and-severina.303721/ PS: I knew you would warm up to the dark side eventually
I'll toss in my budget example ant. for you @Pickin and Grinin I can't help but wonder if I had any influence there, just maybe a little tiny bit.
yeah... you were correcting Smojo on his tho..O.. maybe he added that expose facto..sorry RC..@Roman Collector
