I believe I posted this but did not know how to share a picture, Now I do. This 1968 was pulled from a roll of halves while CRH this year. This was difficult to authenticate and I finely got it done. This is a 1968 Kennedy Half Dollar with a major lamination error retained on the coin. Please review the pictures and let me know what you all think.
@Arby If it were mine, I would definitely submit it, primarily, to protect it. A 2x2 won't do any good. Neither will a Saflip or even an AirTite. You've probably got a coin that is worth maybe ten times the cost of the submission. What say you @Fred Weinberg ? Chris
Check this out, PCGS graded a lamination piece, just a piece. Wow had no Clue I didn't think they would either, HMMMM just might have to check it out. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lincoln-cen...925669?hash=item3d48f38be5:g:L6kAAOSwt7ZXpfAv
Well that is very interesting video, Than what are these coins verified on their website. They state Lamination errors. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1924-Peace-...704525?hash=item3d48949e8d:g:tmoAAOSw3xJXpUc4 http://www.ebay.com/itm/C8743-1921-...907168?hash=item25d9aee2e0:g:H70AAOSwPWRZT~Sz http://www.ebay.com/itm/1887-Morgan...869818?hash=item5d75f3ca3a:g:UAIAAOSwwxlZkf68 These are just a few that are graded by PCGS, and their video states they don't do it. I will be investigating this. Thank you for the video.
Can I have your permission to use your third side view of your lamination error for my power point presentation I do yearly for the coin club I belong to? It's probably the most outstanding example I've seen of a lamination error.
I agree it shouldn't go in a slab. It is peeled back about 60%. I wouldn't want to cause to much stress to it.
Absolutely, use away. How active is your Club, do you trade and sell to each other. Or mostly for sharing and fun.
From 6 to 7 buying, selling, and trading. From 8 to 8:30 a presentation. From 8: 30 pm on an auction. We are the only coin club in NM so we get people from all over. We have two coin shows (next one Nov.10-12) www.abqcc.com
Interesting, I will put that in my calendar, I am in NM as well down south. 90 miles north of El Paso TX. Where do you hold your meetings? If I am able to attend I will bring the coin with me. Plus some others. Can you PM the details where you will be having your show. Thank you.
I just read an email I received from PCGS about grading laminations, and they informed me that my lamination is called a Clamshell Lamination, it goes on to state its among one of the most impressive types of lamiations. They will grade this type of lamination. That is really cool. Have a great long weekend everyone.
Interesting! I guess they feel that it won't come loose in the slab. Are you intending to sell the coin?
I am thinking about it, I have a bunch of other coins I want to send in This is a really cool Lamination.
I was about ready to point out that this is indeed a clamshell lamination. Coins of this ilk sell in the hundreds. Given that this is a 40% example puts it up into the upper echelon of pricing. Cents and dimes are the more common clamshells to find.
