Kind of a pet peeve of mine, for me atleast i generally like to make my e-bay purchase
On Friday knowing that i can use the Sunday as a free shipping day (no mail), but what
I dont like is the shipping estimates ebay gives always pushing out two to three days or
Longer then it should normally be, generally speaking first class mail should take no longer then 4-days coast to coast 1-day pick up 2- day travel 1-day delivery, made a
purchase Arizona and got a 6 day delivery window! i could drive there in 3 hours !
And this seems to be the norm as of late :(

I think this is a tactic e-bay uses to increase positive feedback on the shipping end of
Things always underestimating delivery times, for me its just annoying and frankly
It has caused me to walk away from some deals :(

You also have to remember that the eBay shipping window includes the sellers handling time. My current handling time is 2 days, though typically I try to get it out the same day or the following day. But giving myself 2 day's gives me a window in case something comes up.

Why is it a big deal? You won it, you get it. When it arrives you will put it in the safe and not look at it. So if it arrives late you have it in an envelope and cannot look at it until gets there. All sounds the same to me. EBay's guarantee ensures you are not out any money.

I can relate with that if it,s a business but many are not and dont have hundreds
Of orders to fill they just have mine or maybe a couple others, i use to sell on ebay
A few years ago but got out of it just because its almost impossible to make any money !! you get nickle and dimed from every orifice, ebay and its evil twin sister
Pay pal always take a huge cut by the time you get done there is almost nothing left
But i always got my items out as they came in, quick turn around :) one of the things i did very well !

Call me impatient if you want..LOL, and that would probably be really an accurate
Statement, however the sooner that items arrives the better i feel, though unlikely
Things do occur, so the sooner the better, it reminds me of a quote by Benjamin
Franklin "Dont put off until tomorrow what you can do today" in life that,s So,so true.

You do realize intermediate shipping routes take the longest right? Coast to coast or major city to major city on a heavily traveled route just get put on a plane and are always quicker then the ground all the way routes.

If you have to have something that second you can always drive around to local shops and try and find it

I just purchased a reference book on eBay from a few states away and it was estimated that it would arrive sometime after October 10th. I could write, edit, print the book and have a book signing party by then. I'm with mpcusa, it has to be a way of under-promising and over-delivering for eBay positive feedback.

They don't care if you leave positive feedback or not. You actually help them out if you don't as you take away the sellers discount if they had one.

Your estimate was almost certainly because it was input as media mail which can take anywhere from a few days to months. It's the cheapest way to mail those items so they couldn't care less how long it takes everything else gets prioritized ahead of it and it just gets the extra space on the trucks if there is any.

Most of the stuff I buy on eBay--coins and hobby trains material--generally arrives before the estimated date. It may be built-in cover for those sellers unable to go to the post office every day.

I couldn't help myself... I understand the frustrations of long shipping periods. I'm in Germany right now, so shipping from the US is anywhere from 10-20 days. I hope your book arrives prompt and in great condition.

You should watch that show on TV called Flipping out:eek:
    Oh the drama.
It's the old adage, work smarter not harder.
I don't sell much on the bay or otherwise, but when I do it's as a BIN price.
Seems buyers always want something for nothing and right now.
I work 40+ hour weeks and then there's the time I cant bill for.
ADD IN the house work, work on the house, side projects to make cash for PM's...etc.

Having have to field all the questions about the item your selling to realize a $10 Bill when it's all said and done, the bay and PayPal make the same money if not more.

I try and be optimistic, and if they would to it would make for a perfect world
I understand there philosophy on handling and shipping times and as a former
Seller you not only have to make the buyer happy but ebay as well, being a
seller your always under fire and always broke...LOL

To prove my point, i just got this item today, it was scheduled for delivery for Wed
Not complaining that it came earlier, however just questioning the science.

Fair point, but just because an individual seller may not technically be a business or have hundreds of orders to ship daily, this doesn't mean they do not have anything else to address in life other than your order. When someone, as an example, estimates a two day handing time, this very well may be due to their actual business, family, or work situation allowing them only so much time to do so. One rightly cannot agree to purchase from someone openly stating that it will likely take X long to ship, and then turn around and fault them for it.
