So I purchased a 2006 anniversary set and the 2011 anniversary set from the mint when they were released. I had the 2011 set graded by NGC they are all MS/PF 70's with sequential serial numbers on the slabs. I have been saving them all of these years and have decided to down size my collection and try to get a couple of thousand and by one high end peace dollar. My questions are 1. Is anyone bullish on these sets anymore? 2. What's the best way to sell them?
Sorry to say you won't recoup your grading fees, and you won't get 70 money! I had 9 2008 rev of 07 unc. ASE'S. The raw and the 69's sold ...the 70's sat. No one will pay 70 money when the price of a 69 is hundreds less, and the difference is no bigger that this> . < ! I ended up selling way below retail due to price and low demand. One would think a mule coin with only 47,000 known would bring a premium.
I had five sets of the 2011's and sold four of them. I kept this one for speculation. The way I see it its free. I have recouped the initial cost and grading fees, but you are right the demand isn't there right now and I'm needing to thin done my collection for space and also my taste has changed over the years.
That's not true. The 70s are without a doubt selling for a premium over the 69s or raw ones. The PCGS ones sell for more, but both the PCGS and NGC 70s as singles or a set are bringing premiums as a 70 vs 69/raw
In general both the 2006 and 2011 sets seem to be down from peak levels. If you are comfortable with ebay, I would look for the cheapest buy-it-now and price your set for less (maybe $25-$50 less). Currently I see some listed for over $900, but sold listings are going in the $650-$850 range. I would think at $750 buy-it-now your set would sell fairly quickly. Whether or not that price is acceptable, that is for you to decide (and don't forget to factor in ebay/paypal fees and shipping expenses).
I think most people invest in ASE,S for the bullion content, having graded versions even PF70,S is good and all but getting that premium fully recovered especially with all the sets out there may prove difficult.
Since the Op did not mention the exact purpose of the purchase one can only Guess at his intentions, i buy 20 to 30 ASE,S a month, but would never consider Getting them graded, only for the PM content, but the bottom line is the $$$ you Can get when you sell !.
Actually there is no guessing and you are completely off base again. The OP bought anniversary sets, again those have absolutely nothing to do with bullion or spot price and they never have
Since you are obviously a mind reader with a crystal ball, and can tell 100 % what Some ones intentions are i would rent a space and charge a fee ! i think you would Do really well at that
No mind reading is involved here. There are bullion ASEs and there are collector ASEs. The Anniversary sets are a collector item and have nothing to do with silver stacking and I would buy any quantity of the RPs for spot
I think everybody handles there ASE,S differently, but again it,s about the return on your investment, as always you want to buy as low as possible and pay the least Premium, i dont care what you invest in that,s pretty easy formula to follow, and This being my own opinion and everybody in here is entitled to there own but i would never grade anything that is bullion connected, why ? Getting something like that graded, will cost you in the long run especially with the number being produced, just my two cents.
Why are you talking about grading bullion when these collector sets have absolutely nothing at all to do with spot price or bullion? If you think all ASEs are bullion you have a lot to learn
I garnered 5 of the 2011 sets and quickly sold four........saved the best for my collection. Used the proceeds from the other sets to fund my 'commemorative' addiction.
