In 2007 The Royal Canadian Mint made a 100 kg. .99999 pure gold coin. http://www.mint.ca/store/mint/about-the-mint/million-dollar-coin-1600006#.WX1MkoTyuCg Then in 2010 they loaned it to the Bode Museum in Berlin Germany where it was on display until March 2017 when someone stole it. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/new...ns-stolen-from-german-museum/article34432478/ In July, four suspects, including a museum guard were arrested for the theft. The coin was not recovered and is thought to have been broken up and/or melted for sale. https://www.thelocal.de/20170712/police-arrest-two-over-theft-of-1-million-coin-from-berlin-museum
Fascinating heist, can you imagine somebody coming over to your house or calling you on the phone to find out your opinion on something that huge, and it's stolen? I don't know any ripoffs but they had to know somebody in the world of coins. Dang ripoffs got busted quicker than you could say gold coin.
Well, excuse me for not posting it on July 12, the day of the arrest. My attention span is greater than two weeks.
Our topic about that theft is quite a bit older. https://www.cointalk.com/threads/ma...th-millions-stolen-from-german-museum.293641/ By the way, it was not the Canadian Mint that loaned it to the museum but a private collector. Christian
