Ditto. I'm going with #4. I haven't been posting much in the last month or two but it isn't entirely because of the Steve hoopla. Life has not been kind lately and I haven't had much time or energy for coins. (edited) I thought there was a rule about not posting your email address or contact info but re-reading the rules, it seems to only apply to the context of trying to sell something.
It's not a good idea to post the email addy because of all the 'bots' out there that harvest such things and spam your 'in-box'. Abandon ye all hope........
Well I choose to stay for now and pursue Doug's option 4. -- I have been doing my best! Here is an adjunct to "1. Leave": You can start your own Forum/Message Board -- set your own rules - design it so it looks and functions the way you would like it to - invite who you would like to become members (including Stevex6 !) appoint your own Administrators and Moderators. It can be set up and begin functioning in a very short time -- the following link is to one I set up a short time ago in thirty minutes. It is very bare bones now (primitive layout and just one dummy message for demonstration purposes) but I will make it pretty sophisticated (and jazz the appearance up) shortly. I will probably leave it up and operate it myself as a private Message Board - I may have to after this post! http://members.boardhost.com/cebr/
And you guys that think leaving here is going to improve/change things? Ain't gonna happen. This site will survive without you, and doing so (lesson in futility) only nurtures abandon........stay and make this place a better world. Steve did it when he and his buddy's came over to this site back in 2013. The 'ancient forum' was a ghost town then. Of since, it's been lively. Pick up the 'banner' of Steve and Marshall on. This lacking of his presence is but a bump in the road. I know he'll be back.
I meant to include that I will adopt Doug's Option 4. -- I am doing my best. I edited my original post to reflect this.
I meant it as a compliment. I've never heard of someone in their 80's tackling website creation. I am too intimidated to attempt and am blown away at your ability and sharpness. I can't even carry a conversation with my 85 yoa, dementiated grandfather anymore.
I definitely agree that Steve was a positive and dynamic part of the ancients forum. I miss his presence already but would really miss him if it turns out he was permabanned. He's done nothing but support me and my coins, and the support he gives to many others here is very admirable as well. I remember one time when some random non-ancients poster out of nowhere and for no reason decided to negatively criticize me for buying a lower-grade coin. Steve immediately came to my defense publicly and he also PMed me to make sure I was feeling ok. He's also PMed me a few times in the past to wish me a good holiday or just to ask how I'm doing. I'm not trying to justify what he did, but am only giving my experiences and my opinions+feelings about him. While what he did was wrong (he made some strong posts against someone that wanted to turn an ancient coin into jewelry, right?) and what he said could have been said in a more forum-appropriate manner, no one is perfect and wouldn't be something I would hold against him (I tend not to make make any critical and permanent judgments about someone over one or two minor things, especially someone I've known for a long time, unlike some tend to do on this forum). All this being said, Steve is not the only thing that brings me to this forum. So even if he is gone (whether temporarily or permanently), I still have other good reasons to continue participating in CT Ancients, possibly the most important being the coin-friends I still have here. I wish I could be more active on here so that I could have more opportunity to give back to this great ancients forum. I almost feel bad for resurrecting this thread and as a result opening this whole can of worms, but looking at the last several pages I feel like all of this might have been something that needed to be discussed.
Ya know? For the life of me, what did the poor sod do? I've seen fracases in the bullion forum that would have called out the police, yet nothing was done. I really can't picture Steve as doing anything untoward. And if it was, it was only 'repartee'.....
I believe Steve will be back sooner or later and things will go back to normal. I will take Doug's choice #4. I have been forced to work long hours lately while struggling with health issues so I have not posted much since my FUN show thread but it is not lack of ideas or coins to show. John
Some of the spark of this small group has been missing since Steve's absence. I hope he returns very soon. And TIF, hang in there. I wish you all the best my friend.
There is such a rule, and the reason there is such a rule is to protect our members. At any given moment there are between 40 and 50 bots cruising CT, many of them created by spammers whose sole purpose is to try and harvest information and things like email addresses. Right now, there 47 bots cruising the site. And anyone who wants can see that for themselves at any time on the main index page just by looking in the right hand column to where it says - Users Online Now.
