Hi, all. I'm an ancient collector and am unfamiliar with the modern world coin market, so I'm asking for help here. Do you know where I might find one of these coins of the Knights Hospitaller depicting the head of John the Baptist on a platter?
What an interesting design! I've got John the Baptist on a coin, but his head is still attached to his body, here. (I think someone over on Collectors Universe said he looked like an "octopus man" in this design. I thought it looked more like he was wearing a flaming "biblical superhero" cloak, myself.) Netherlands (Gelderland): "St. John" type goldgulden (florin) of Arnold van Egmond, ca. 1423-1472

On the OP's coin there is a small cross at 4 o'clock. Rotate the coin so that the cross is at 12 o'clock. Once you have done this you can tell whether or not you have the St. John the Baptist, head on platter. When showing this coin and others like it, the cross, if there is one should always be at 12 o'clock. The OP's coin looks to be a correct attribution, just incorrectly pictured. I've never seen a copper piece, just silver pieces. Buyers of these coins should always check for orientation of the cross in the pics. There is a large difference of value between true head on platter and non.
