So I feel like the hype should have died down by now. I've been watching this one and the prices I'm finding for the same set @mpcusa has above are 43-50 so ima bite. I like privy coins, my favorite piece in my Bullion collection is the gold 1999 maple 20 ans so I'm excited to have this first run of silver Kruger to keep it company. Fingers crossed to land a deal!
I would sincerely like to know where all of you are getting these silver bullion coins (ie: Krugerrand, Eagles, MapleLeaf's etc.), for spot price, or just a few dollars over spot price.
The Silver Krugerrands aren't available anywhere near spot. Some of us are just waiting it out until they fall to $25-$35 before buying. As for Eagles, Maples, generic silver, etc...check the ebay daily deals page or a local coin store. Ebay has had multiple specials for Silver Eagles and Maples in the $2-$3 over spot range. Generics are available for under $1 over spot quite often. Also, the top vendors like Apmex, JM Bullion, Provident tend to have specials on their websites.
Been there done that! I know the feeling of wanting something right away and have bought items before too early. So I'm holding out on the Krugerrand. However, if anyone wants one or few for their collection, I see nothing wrong with that as long as one has the money to spend.
Who knows if and when the price will come down to an acceptable level, or i say a more agreeable one like anything it,s only worth what someone is Willing to pay for it !!
That's true. It's just that this coin has a mintage of 1,000,000 and the price is already down $10-$12 (less than half a year after release).
Just checked on E-bay about the 1 oz. silver PROOF Krugerrands, graded PF70, and the buy now prices range anywhere from $900.00 to $4080.00 in both NGC and PCGS.
Well give it another few months and see where its at then if it comes down in a good buy range i will for sure get more
If you track the auctions the slabbed SP70s are going for around 75 right now. I went the cheap route and snagged the same set @mpcusa picked up for 48. I have one, that makes me happy enough.
If it does become part of a new series, then the prices paid for the 50th anniversary coins will have been way too high. However, if this is the only one they produce, then it will not just become a bullion version, but a numismatic collectible as well.
The marketing definitely gave this coin the right hype for dealers to make out. Even if it is the beginning of the series there won't be another 50th until the 50th of the silver striking (which would probably have the 100yr privy anyways). But I like collecting the first and last minting of every type so it suits my wants. I just had to wait it out till it was a little more reasonably priced. I was the kid that got a Nintendo when the Super Nintendo was coming out.
