As a bullion investor my primary focus is the bullion content but have learned from My local dealer that some manufactures and older silver demand a premium does not make much sense to me since the focus should be on the PM content not on the maker or funky design, your thoughts.
It would seem so but many older designs are coveted and were made in smaller numbers. Elemental brand designs also can carry a stiff premium. I have a few of their 2 ounce designs and paid extra but I very much liked the designs/subjects and artwork in general.
Why? Everything is supply and demand. If people want something and it is limited price goes up. If all someone cares about is silver it shouldn't matter, but there is no reason private issues can't gain premiums or be collectable as well
that,s my question why ? strictly speaking its bullion if your sole purpose is to Invest it shouldnt matter who makes it, the point i am trying to make
Popular items get premiums, and simply being privately made doesn't mean everything is automatically bullion to start with like some people assume
Art rounds, challenge coins, tokens, overstrikes, etc... can, and do command a hefty premium for P.M. Products. Check out Dan Carr/Moonlight Mint, for example. These are bought and sold as collectables, not as bullion. The countries that produce, and monetize their bullion products such as American Eagles, Canadian Maple Leafs, etc... May also be collected, especially the proofs,or limited edition ones. When purchasing P.M.s, it isn't a clear, defined line that separates collector bullion from just bullion, except maybe the price, and that is even a gray area, as some collector coins can be bought, and sold for bullion prices. Plain bars, and generic rounds are what I consider to be bullion only, but some may collect those if wanted also.
And strictly speaking, a military payment certificate is just a note worth whatever the face value is, assuming it can still circulate. Why do you pay more for them? Because you like them enough that you and others bid up the price.
If you want to INVEST in bullion then buy generic bars or rounds. That's where the premium is the lowest. All that other stuff has the cost of production as an addition overhead. Someone had to make the dies and the production line is longer. That all adds to the price. Generic bars and rounds are not nearly as eye catching but you'll have to pay extra for those that are.
I respectfully Disagree, Graded Military payment certificates go for big money, i have been in this industry for 20 Plus years and i know what i am talking about Allot of the stuff i own are one of a kinds and if i ever wanted to sell would go for large amounts of dollars, here,s a couples example for you and these are Investment grade notes
And good luck finding another one in this grade cause you wont !! top dog on the block estimated value $7,000 all day long
Ok, please let me know why you disagree. I don't need pictures of them, I've seen plenty. My position is that you and others like them, so you pay big money for them. What in there are you disagreeing with?
