I am trying buy some 1 oz gold . Today I call local coin deal ask how much for 1 oz gold , he say it be around $ 40 + spot price for the maple leaf 1 oz gold . So that not bad price , I will wait little to see how low it can go on gold prices.

It's always time to buy gold! I prefer old ones that hold their value above spot though.

Right from their home page, there is a promotional banner for the sale. You can also navigate to them from Gold > Gold Bars & Rounds > By Weight > 1oz. Item is listed as "1oz Gold Bar - Brand Name (w/Assay Card)"

I do not believe there is ever a bad time to buy gold - as long as you plan on holding it long term. But I would not buy modern bullion bars, although AGEs, Buffaloes, Maple Leaf, Philharmonics and Krugerrands are good buys if close to spot.

My favorites are 1/10 AGEs and European gold from 1850-1933. The latter is in various weights, depending on country, from 0.18 to 0.25 oz.

Lowest price I see from a reliable dealer on eBay for a 1 oz. AGE is $1,251.

The APMEX listing is a bit disturbing. It's just too generous of a give away to sell gold bars at spot. It makes me wonder if gold is really expected to fall soon or if APMEX sales data shows declining interest in generic bars.

Personally, I know I would never buy a gold bar because of the high potential of counterfeiting and difficulty reselling. I also notice that APMEX's buy price for 1 oz gold bars is not listed ever. It always says "call." In other words, they probably pay well under spot.

    Thoughts?

I also wonder if gold is expected to fall. It sure has been headed that way.

I'm on the sidelines here. Bought an ounce of gold in the beginning of April and now I'm just seeing how the drop unfolds. I have some other projects that my funds are getting allocated to also.

APMEX hedges all their prices so they don't care whether it goes up or down: they still gain.

As for counterfeiting, I only buy gold bars at close to spot if they are from a reputable mint and source and are still in the original packaging.

Whats so disturbing about it? Its a promotion to move inventory and generate cashflow. I don't see anything ominous about that... Most retailers in the world do this.

What is disturbing to me is if someone knows something I don't know. Several years ago a dealer at a show told me to sell my silver.
I said why is it going to drop?
He says yup and said just sell half of it if you don't want to sell it all. Silver was close to $30/tr. oz. I sold nothing and here I am at $16 still holding.

Me too. The betting money is on a Fed rate hike next month.
