Other than ASEs, I typically don't buy moderns. But because Mom collected angels, I just had to have this. I think I (finally) got a great deal! Before I say what I paid (and hopefully to confirm a got a great deal), what would everyone consider a great deal?
Very nice, if you like collecting tokens or medals. Lovely design.......It's an ounce of silver, so I'd be willing to pay no more than $60 for this beautiful piece. That's just me.........if the price is right for a fancy full item, I buy it. Otherwise, go fish.........
OK, I like Sam's answer the best so I'm gonna run with it. . . Yes, at $129, I got a great deal. And before I get flamed, I understand it's one ounce of silver. And I also understand what silver spot currently is. But $#%&, I got a great deal.
And you got a great deal because you liked it.....it was good for you. Amiable and agreeable. Your view. Congrats upon your acquisition.......
LIke Ken, I agree all deals are good if you like the coin and am happy. Too much "wheeler dealer" mentality in coin collecting, trying to get everything for the last nickel. Life is too short to worry about every buck. I buy world bullion coins with animals on them for my sons at local coins shows. I never worry if I could have gotten it $3 cheaper somewhere else. Life is too short to be pissed about a few bucks, right? Its a hobby and should be enjoyed.
If memory serves, MCM sold these for; gem-$99, 69-$149, 70-$199. All were Mercanti signed and NGC graded. I got one(70) myself. Absolutely gorgeous. Yes you got a good deal IMO.
No, it was privately minted for the National Park Foundation. If I remember correctly, this was the original design for the St.Gaudens $20 gold pc. But due to the technology of the time, the U.S. mint was unable to produce it. So they made modifications, and minted the St.Gaudens that we all know, and love. A couple years ago Mercanti was tasked to recreate the original Design. I also think that they might have used a original cast, or finished engraving the original dies. Something like that. They didn't start from scratch to make these. Not completely sure. One could probably find the exact details at MCM, or just a search.
I thought it was privately minted. It does have "United States" on it. Not absolutely positive though.

Yes, it was a private release and yes it was minted by the Royal Mint. https://www.moderncoinmart.com/2016...c-pf70-uc-mercanti-signed-label-sku39589.html
