The 2027 U.S. Red Book is here!

It's difficult to authenticate original rolls. With experience you can pretty much tell but I can't really prove a roll is original. They make a fun collection and there aren't many surviving of many of the older rolls so there is value there. I decided long ago to collect coins and disregard packaging so paying a premium only makes sense to me when there's a good chance of a roll or a set having Gems or varieties.

I love things like early mint sets like an SMS or a 1969 in their original mailing envelope. The coins will probably be mediocre and could be skunked but there's a real chance of finding something spectacular.

Actually, I am now curious about what the "introduction" says regarding the years 2021-2023 (see highlighted footnote in pic below).

 

What the introduction refers to in this case is that "for circulation" strikes for 2021-2023 were made during the Covid coin shortages to alleviate those shortages in commerce. They were made to be used in public.

 

Some of those start dates seem odd to me. Is there a reason cents start with 1934 or dimes with 1946?

 

Yes I figured that much, but was curious how they worded it in the Red Book.

 

I can't explain the cents, but the rest are easy - 1946 was the first year of the new Roosevelts.

 

The Red Book gives no stated reason for why they start at those particular dates. They lists prices for the rarest coins throughout the book. so that can't be the reason.

 

Interesting that the Red Book declares that 2024 and 2025 half dollars were not issued for circulation. Over the past week, I've searched at least $1000 worth of rolls and at least 3/4 of them were '24-P,D and '25-P,D. I declare that they indeed were issued for circulation!

 

I'd suspect that someone bought bags/boxes of them and tried to cherrypick them for the high grade ones. The ones not worth grading got recycled.

 

I sourced the rolls from 4 different banks, 3 different cities in SoCal. All sources yielded very similar results.
