I am super disappointed with the Mint after viewing the 2026 Silver Proof Set that arrived here two days ago. Please notice the black dot below the D in God on the cent. Whether it is on the coin itself or inside the plastic covering is hard to discern, but it is obvious that their quality control needs improvement. Has anyone else had an issue with the set? An aside: The dime is impressive and was my primary reason for buying the set, so in that regard I am pleased.
The mint should replace the set and cover all the shipping charges. Notice I said "should". I don't trust them to do what's right any more.
So if the Mint does continue to strike cents for future use in uncirculated and proof sets…. Can we get legislation enacted to force them to be struck in copper only and ditch the money saving plated zinc foolishness? Rick L.
Yeah, the zinc lobby's already lost their cash cow, they shouldn't put up much of a fight at this point. There's absolutely no reason to continue with that (de)composition.
I sent customer service at the mint the photo asking for a resolution. They say two days for a response.
Honestly if they're only going to minted for collectors now anyway, and they're charging the premiums they are, I think going back to copper would make sense. They did make copper versions of the 2009 pennies in uncirculated sets. Pulled out my silver proof set to check; penny in mine looks fine. They're generally pretty good with these; I think OP just got bad luck of the draw. In my experience their quality control is pretty good, but nobody's perfect 100% of the time.
Wasn't there a reverse proof or something or other "special" Lincoln cent issued some years back and every one came with spots and damage? I know I have one in the recesses of my safe.
Only two reverse proof Lincoln cents I know of: One in the 2018-S silver reverse proof set, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of reverse proof sets. I only have one, but it looks good. A 2019-W reverse proof cent was included in a separate envelope with 2019 silver proof sets. Most seem high grade from what I've seen. (There was a 2019-W standard proof issued with the 2019 clad proof sets, and a 2019-W business strike cent included with 2019 uncirculated sets.) I don't have the 2019-W reverse proof but I have the regular proof; ANACS graded it PF-70 DCAM.
The mint replied with a list of requirements, one of which (should this happen to you) is you must ship the item back to them within 7 days of receipt in order to either get a refund or replacement. They included a prepaid shipping label that I printed and attached to the repackaged proof set. It was sent today.
Given the high prices, the mint is charging, their quality control should be top notch. This shows it isn't.
Who has a copy of the composite photo showing the change in the proof cameos over the years? I think it used Jefferson nickels. Can’t find it in my saved photos or the web. Rick L.
