I don't know if Low Ball GSA is actually a collected item, but I recently found one so I'm kind of hoping so. I sold my GSA accumulation recently and when going through them found an ungraded softpack that appeared to me to be very low grade. It is an 1899-O softpack that graded AG-3, Low POP for all 1899's (regardless of mint) and may well be low or tied for low for all GSA's (very hard to determine). It is a fresh NGC grading and can be seen on Great Collections. I wasn't sure posting a link was allowed, so I deferred.
I certainly get that, but if you collect Low Ball coins (P1, P2 or AG3) this is the Top POP for 1899-O, and expanded, all 1899 and possibly all GSA dates. Collectors who do like Low Ball coins (and there are strict rules as to what qualifies) love this kind of wear on a coin.
I guess it would depend on the date. Some dates are hard to find in like PO-1. Now if I read the NGC population reports correctly PO-1 has 204 coins in that grade. I know at times for low ball sets you have to pay large numbers for a low graded coin. I am not sure how the soft pack would play into this - unless you get extra points or something. While I might not collect low ball coins - I guess at least 1 of mine would qualify. I have not collected like this so don't know all the rules.
But this coin is a GSA. There are collectors specializing in GSA Low Ball. AG3 is the lowest I've seen
So, you're selling the one on GC? Seems like a very niche market. I don't do the lowball thing so maybe someone who does will chime in. My perception of it from forum posts is that they want P01 or F02 grades. Perhaps someone would settle for AG3 until a worse (better) example comes along? Unless you find two GSA softpack lowball bidders who really want it I can't see it selling for much above any other AG3.
That's certainly what I'm hoping for. There are P1 and P2's in GSA's. In fact, GSA's were supposed to all be uncirculated. Towards the end they were just grabbing what ever was there, and sent out some well circulated coins, but not many. I have heard of folks looking for the hardpacks in lower grades. This one happens to be a soft pack, which were prone to lower grades later in the GSA program.
