Hi! I just recently bought a nice old collection of notes, some of which were mounted with two different types of glue. The notes were glued onto plastic sheets similar to clear document protection sheets. One type of glue had hardened and is dry to the touch, leaving a stain on the note. The other type is still very much sticky and also has left a stain. Any recommendations on removing the sticky glue?
Ouch I typed "glue" into the search box and ran across this; https://www.cointalk.com/threads/how-to-remove-glue-from-paper-money.272116/#post-2302912 Good luck, and remember, even after the glue is gone there's going to be a stain, but at least you can safely put them into a currency sleeve.
I like the reference to the Western and Atlantic Railroad - that very same year occasioned the "Great Locomotive Chase" which was also the subject of a fairly good 1956 movie. Western and Atlantic also issued it's own small change notes that same year.
Milledgeville was the capital of Georgia in 1862. During the previous year, self-selecting members of a "secession convention" met there and declared the "Republic of Georgia", which shortly thereafter joined the Confederacy. In November 1864, General Sherman captured the city and, in perhaps misplaced romantic reaction to the beauty of its antebellum architecture, decided not to have the city burned. It nonetheless was stripped of its status as state capital, that honor ironically bestowed instead on Atlanta, which Sherman had not refrained from burning.
