1879-1899 would like a word. More recently, inflation hit 23.7% in the US in 1920; at that point, prices had risen 80% since 1916. Hard money is no panacea. I'd rather have endemic inflation than a string of depressions. I'm not that attached to squirreling money away under my mattress.
I can't believe we're on the cusp of hitting $100 silver and $5000 gold so soon, and at nearly the same time . . . At this writing they are $99.26 silver & $4968.30 gold.
Plus the end of fixed exchange rates....low-volume, fixed-rate commissions on stocks (Charles Schwab ended that on May 1st, 1975)....tiny, illiquid options and futures exchanges. The gold and FX markets traded $1 billion a day in 1979-80. Today, the gold market trades about $200 billion a day.....while the FX market trades $8 trillion a day.
I predict silver $500/ gold 10K by 2027 But really I wish both would drop, its making my hobby way too $$$$$$$$ My heaviest gold coin,,,,,140 grams, but my AV 2 Dukaten Danzig worth way more
Would someone PLEASE inform the Gold Market that I just bought 2 gold coins at FUN 2026 and the price is supposed to plummet after I buy ?

Well since it went the last $146 in two days and reached the goal, is it too late to change the thread title to $6k? Or make a new one. THAT will be a challenge. Could be there in two weeks or not in our lifetimes.
Or a simpler challenge: "which will it hit first, $6K or $4K?" I vote $4K. But until a week or two ago, I would've voted $4K before $5K.
I think I predicted $5,000 gold back about FUN 2020, 6 years ago. I thought $3,000 by 2030 was a given and $5,000 by 2035. Then I moved up both. I was too conservative.
Gold and silver are CLEARLY being chased higher....it looks like short-covering...but nobody is saying they lost $$$ on their positions. Very strange.
