LordM 2026 FUN show report (live updates from the floor)

Passed these on my way to the NGC table. Faircoindealer.com. Nice fella. Nice inventory. All WAY outta my league.

 

At the NGC table. Four coins goin’ off.

My Roman Republican denarius with the John Quincy Adams pedigree. Cost me five extra bucks for the pedigree. I gave ‘em the documentation. Worst case scenario, if they won’t put the pedigree on the holder (which is possible), then I’m out that five bucks. You have to pay it for the research, whether they accept the provenance documentation or not. Cross your fingers for me.





Next, the sweet Hadrian denarius Randy gave me last month. Hope for Ch XF or maybe AU. Plain XF would be acceptable. I paid for Photovision imaging. I always do. Will be nice to have better pix of this one than my wretched cellphone shots.



Then the 1564 Thaler I bought yesterday. I paid extra for imaging (+$8) and also Fast Track, to reduce the turnaround time by 50% (+$15). Hope for straight grade XF40, but VF30-35 would be acceptable.




Finally, Randy’s 1803 half dollar he got for a song (before the show). Paid extra for Fast Track, and NCS conservation. It has some funky secondary toning from an old cleaning.

Hopefully they’ll conserve it to a lighter shade and more even coloration. It would be amazing if it got a straight grade afterwards, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. But even with a details/cleaned result, Randy can’t lose on this one, for what he paid.

It actually came out looking nice in my quickie pic at the NGC booth. In hand, it’s pretty dark. But it has nice details. XF, maybe? VF+ details, minimum.

Two more “wow” pieces I passed by. First Mormon gold I’ve seen in person. I didn’t bother asking the price. It’s not a coin for peasants like me.

That Bust dollar is in a details holder due to a scratch, but it has incredible toning I didn’t totally capture in this pic.

 

Going in for one final walkabout before we hit the highway and head home. Maybe another hour or so. Poor Randy’s back is shot, and he’s really suffering. Walking around on those hard concrete floors takes a toll, and even my feet are tired. (My “dogs are barkin’”, as they say.)

If there were truly 10,000 on Thursday, I have got to believe there were at least 20,000 over the duration of the full show.

We are now homeward bound on I-4, but once we’re out of Orlando traffic (just passed a fender bender), I’ll catch up and post my final pics from the floor. I made a few modest last-minute purchases, mostly for my giveaway stash.

 

I made a good buddy, not on the bourse floor, as it happens, but rather back at the hotel, late on Friday and Saturday nights. We just met by random chance and talked for hours into the night.

I didn’t even catch his name until I looked him up on the show floor Sunday (he had told me he was at Table 153, which I remembered). Dan Pecoraro, it happens, is not only a dealer but also a middle school science teacher and the Director of Young Numismatists for the Palm Beach Coin Club. He’s the kind of guy who is a true ambassador for YNs.

He is also a real character, as you can see from the photo below. He is a jeweler and lapidary and World coin guy, and wears lots of bling including a heavy tricornered hat he made from saddle leather. My kinda guy.



I bought this Nova Scotia halfpenny from Dan. He let me have it for my giveaway stash, for 20 bucks. I like these old “thistle” types.






Saw this cool shipwreck escudo nearby. Don’t remember if it was Dan’s, or someone else’s. Don’t even know if it was for sale, or just on display, as a lot of the shipwreck stuff is.

 

Next stop was at the Time Machine table. They usually have fun and affordable artifacts in a pick bin. Last year they were 3/$50, and I got a Roman bracelet and some other interesting things.

This year the artifact pick bin was only ten bucks! Not quite as much ancient stuff this year, but there were some cool dated lead seals from the 1700s. Stuff like that.

I bought three items. The first was a Roman buckle.



The next was a coronation medal of Britain’s short-reigning Edward VIII, who ruled for barely a year before he abdicated. I’ll take better pics of it when I add it to the giveaway stash.



The last item was a pretty, vintage glass bead I bought for my artistic sister, who does stuff like that.
