Hello friends, I don't know jack about these, so, I'm asking for ID to ensure I am not selling off something too cheap. I am assuming 19th century, and probably valueless, but maybe one of you knows better. Evan
You had me at "India, presumably 19th century". I can concur with that much. Beyond that... well... I don't know jack about 'em either. *shrugs*
I can't find your coin in my 1971 edition of British Commonwealth Coins, in the pages on Indian Native States. As to the price, why not sell it at the price you paid for it plus your usual margin? If afterwards it turns out to have been a very rare coin, well, you will have made a profit and you have very likely made a very, very happy collector. Many years ago - i,e in the 60's and 70's, I used to buy English coins in Spain and Spanish coins in England, preferably as far away from London as possible. This was a great way to buy coins from small local dealers who did not necessarily have all the info to hand. I still regret not buying a 1905 Edward VII half crown in Sevilla for a few pesetas. I knew that there were forgeries, about but I should have risked it Now of course we have the internet, Numista and all the other coin sites as well as the full details (prices, photos, condition etc) from numerous public auctions. As a result, I feel that a little of the spice and joy of finding a coin where the dealer has not done his homework has disappeared, but I did recently pick up in Barcelona, for a song, a French 5 centimes, 1875K, in at least EF. The dealer had obviously thought that there was no need to check the mintage for that year, only 760,000! His loss, my gain!
Thanks for checking for me. I have a reference but I don’t quite know what I am looking at. my cost is zero…. I found this on the ground!
Wow! Where? That’s an unusual ground find in a North American context! Very interesting! I know a thing or two about unusual ground finds, myself…
