Not sure if I posted this or not. It’s a pinch of gold and it’s a shipwreck recovery. Slightly different from my others pinches.

Very nice. I like the holder design. The illustration and the text really make it complete. Maybe 2 or 3 grams of gold.

I get chills looking at the pinch of gold, thinking of the grizzled sourdough working his grubstake, standing in the ice cold water of the American River panning for specks of gold. The historical aspect is awesome. And then to have all that effort go down with the ship. Thanks for sharing…Spark

The discovery and treasure recovery from the SS Central America is an amazing story of research and technological innovation.

Yes, at 8,000 feet deep it’s quite the story and accomplishment.

Fascinating story about the S.S. Central America gold recovery and the aftermath, the main scientist Tommy Thompson is still in jail accused of stealing of 500 gold coins, great movie- Cursed Gold: A Shipwreck Scandal! :cigar:

Yes, Tommy Thompson, the deep-sea treasure hunter who located the SS Central America, is still in jail today as of November 6, 2025.
Though a judge ended his civil contempt of court charge in early 2025 (on the grounds that further incarceration was unlikely to compel him to reveal the gold's location), Thompson must still serve a separate two-year sentence for a related criminal contempt charge (for skipping a court hearing in 2012 and going on the run).
Thompson has been in federal custody since his arrest in Florida in 2015 for refusing to disclose the whereabouts of 500 missing gold coins, valued at approximately $2.5 million. He also faces millions of dollars in fines. Thompson claims he turned the coins over to a trust in Belize years ago but has provided no evidence, and courts have rejected his claims of memory loss.

I once spent a half an hour looking for my keys, but if I had 500 gold coins I think I'd remember where I put them.

I'm sure he's banking on the fact they have to let him go sometime and if those coins are outside US jurisdiction, oh well...

Just my thoughts though lol, I have no proof of any of that.

If I was in his shoes I would have given up the gold coins years ago, I think he got ripped off years ago and he has no way to prove it. :shame: Still some believe he knows where the coins are at, he's been locked up since 2015! I guess that means he's holding his mud, that's insane! lol.gif
