I cannot PM you at your new account, @Biblical Kingdoms. Perhaps you have PM's disabled?

Yes - he told me he was locked out of it.

Also, to make this thread about coins, the thought occurred to me that there is at least one very obvious Roman coin type which illustrates ancient long-distance communication. What is the type?

I just looked up carrier pigeons, and their history goes back 3000 years, so @Roman Collector also wins. I wonder if the doves on the coins of Sikyon have anything to do with homing pigeons? An interesting idea...

I don't use pigeons. I relly on my trusty dolphin-killing eagle for my messages. No enemy dolphins can stand in the way of her getting my messages out to the world.

Before her I tried using messenger scorpions. However, after a few incidents with some pesky Roman quadrigas I promptly abandoned the idea and switched to eagles.

Did you all know that there was an Ancient Roman Air Force?

Messages and goods were delivered WELL before the idea of DRONES in our modern age...

Here we see an Augusta demonstrating the use of the Roman Air Force...

OK, sorry for the interruption... NEXT!

If I was a barbarian I'd be terrified at the incendiary peacock eggs raining from the sky.

Instead of being scared, I'd be wondering what I am tripping on to be able to see a person flying on a bird...

Didn't this little guy fly around the known World & bring back all the latest news to Athena?

An elephant and a zebu walk into a bar and have a couple of drinks. The elephant turns to the zebu and says "Isn't it your turn to pick up the tab?" The zebu gets up, says "I'll zebu latter!", and runs out the bar doors.

Moral of the story: Don't take a zebu out for drinks.
