What makes you believe you can objectivly judge the expertise of a book that increasingly appears you never read?

That's quite a book report. Soon you'll be able to do the fox, the chicken and the bag of corn.

I got it from my grandfather so maybe it was an earlier version. He also liked the one about which way would the smoke be blowing from the subway...

I at least learned a new term by reading this thread: "woo woo."

I'm not particularly annoyed by this "woo woo" stuff. Some of it is at least anthropologically fascinating, entertaining or enlightening about human psychology and epistemology. I sometimes watch conspiracy videos for fun or simply as an argumentative self-challenge: can they convince me? What is the evidence? Is there any? What are the counter arguments? Etc. It can be fun.

Ultimately, no one really knows what will happen. No one knows the future. But some people think that they know. Those who don't at least entertain possible alternative future outcomes may find themselves surprised or caught off guard.

I can't count how many people told me in the years running up to 2007 - 2008 that the US housing market would never crash. I didn't believe it at the time, either, but I at least thought it was possible. And it definitely was, as we found out. Do I think the US economy will collapse? I don't think it will, but I don't know whether it will or won't, either. Ultimately, I really don't know. No one does. To entertain the idea isn't irrational. To live one's life as if it's an inevitability is probably going too far, as is, arguably, living with the opposite conviction.

So "woo woo" has its place as well. Don't take it too seriously, but also embrace it for the very human activity that it is. People like to speculate and form theories. At least they're being creative. :D

Markets are based on investors anticipating the future. If it's "woo woo" because stackers anticipate doom and gloom then what is it when PM haters anticipate status quo forever? Is it plucky-ducky gusto?
