JM BULLION has purchased NORTON SHOPPING Guarantee for me.

Thanks but I don't even know what this is and I would have much rather gotten a deal like purchase one ounce of gold at spot or a free silver bar.

Is this really a valuable service or is it, like I think Nothing.

They do this on every order. My understanding is that basically it is to show you an extra level of protection of your purchase and how they handle your information. It's pretty much meaningless.

That's frustrating to see it adds itself to chrome. Yet another reason to not use chrome, I suppose.

I would have some... intemperate words for Customer Service if they did something like this to me.

I can't quite fathom, though, how a merchant site can install a persistent extension on your browser -- even Chrome -- without somehow asking you for approval.

They can't but as green said, it's in the fine print. It's usually a check box that many people miss when installing another app, like Ccleaner for instance. When I recently updated to the newest edition of Ccleaner I missed the check box and Chrome was installed. It was pre-checked and I did not uncheck it. And I would never advise anyone to get Norton anti virus. It is an insidious program that attaches itself to EVERYTHING in your computer. You can uninstall but come backs days, weeks, months later and find bits and pieces of it everywhere.

It has nothing to do with Chrome as far as I know. I placed an order last week, with JM Bullion, using Safari. I got an email from Norton Shopper saying my order was protected with their service. I think it is something the JM Bullion does. Even their website has a logo on it that says it's "Norton Secured". So I'm pretty sure it's JM Bullion that is driving this.

That wasn't the point. Everyone who buys from JM has their order protected. The issue was someone with Chrome was saying it automatically installs into the browser to protect their shopping. I don't know if that's true, but it sounds awful. Point is, though, all JM orders are protected. To me, that's a good thing. Installing something on my computer without my explicit consent is not (but there is no evidence of that at this point).

I think you are over-reacting just a tad bit. Most computers come preinstalled with some kind of protection. Norton Mcfee ect. They also deal in WEBSITE PROTECTION, which is simply all this is. Its basically telling you your online purchase is protected, IE nobody can steal your credit card information. Its pre installed on a lot of browsers. AND FOR GOOD REASON.

The good reason is the financial consideration for putting it on in the first place. If it was just for your protection, you could remove it completely from you computer if you wished to later. Try it. You have to go to a site such as Majorgeeks to get malware programs to remove it from hiding in your system. OK being on the seller's machine , if it is to protect your credit card info there, but why on yours? The newer 'Ransom' type malware can just blow by it. But each their own. Kaspersky and Malwarebytes, even the free versions, are in my opinion much safer, and I am paranoid about it :)

I love my Malwarebytes paid version. It's so quick, both incoming and outgoing.

Like I said they come pre installed on most machines now and days, and most browsers have it, an incentive for you to use their website, or maybe even legal reasons. If you don't want it you can remove it :p but I don't see why its free, something is better then nothing.

I'd rather have the choice of what gets installed on my computer. A lot of the software is just bloat ware

I agree with that, but you don't have a choice unless you make the computer so..... something we have to live with lol

That's a nice motorcycle there in your profile pic. How about I put a trailer on it for you? FREE! Something's better than nothing, right? I'll even weld it on to make sure nobody unhooks it while you aren't looking. And, because it's dangerous out there on the roads, I'll weld on some training wheels, too. FREE! And a tracker, so we can always tell where your motorcycle is, and how fast it's going, and help you find it if it gets stolen.

That's why we don't want "free" stuff installed on our computers.
