We did a contest with this format last year.

The prize for this contest will be a mystery at first. As of this writing, not even I know what it will be! On August 1st, I will be visiting my friend's shop, WNC Coins, in western North Carolina, and there, based on the suggestions from this thread, I will purchase a prize item worth between $35 and $50 USD. Then we'll reveal the prize and have the drawing for it later, on or after the 21st of the month.

To enter: Just mention some things you might like to see as a $35-50 prize, broadly speaking. A US coin? A nice proof set? A nice World coin, maybe slabbed? Old? Modern? Silver? Ancient? Just throw out some ideas. Of course none of us know what I will actually find once I get to the shop, but in the meantime, it'll be fun to see what ideas you have.
The random drawing will be held on or shortly after Thursday, August 21, 2025.

Totally free: the contest is free of charge, open to everyone, with free worldwide shipping. The only thing I ask is that you do please post to this thread later, when you have received the prize, so that we'll know you got it (that helps me keep track).

    Good luck!

    Numismatic regards,

    ~Robertson ("Rob") Shinnick ("LordM")

Lord M, Thank you for all of the blessings you have given to this community. As for this contest, a blind prize is interesting. You do so well with your picks I'm sure that any would be a great addition to anyone's set. For the prize I would like to see a classic commemorative. Thanks again

It’s only a blind prize up until the time I actually purchase it. Then it’ll be revealed, before the drawing.

BTW, if any of you do Collectors Universe, I'm doing the same thing over there. You have to post on CU to enter that one, but by so doing, you'll effectively double your chances, since that contest will have a totally separate prize from this one.

What a good idea @lordmarcovan, I must have missed the one from last year. Thanks for the opportunity to share our thoughts. I would like to see a standing liberty quarter, maybe a high mintage year that could bring in a pretty good condition coin for the price range you are shooting for. One of my favorite series. Here is one of mine. 7649972-O.jpg 7649972-R.jpg

For gold, a tiny Indian fanam could be done in the $35-50 range, maybe, but I dunno if WNC Coins will have any.

How about a nice error coin. Maybe a double strike or a super incomplete planchet.

I LOVE a mystery. I'm in for this one! As for the prize, being a world coins guy, there are plenty of options!

How about a capped bust or seated dime? A pretty nice one could be found in that price range.
