Yes, Michael Swoveland of WNC Coins (aka @Aethelred here) is an avid and longtime collector of ancient coins, though the ones in his shop inventory tend to be fairly typical late-Roman bronzes and such. (His personal collection is impressive.)
ENTRY POST I will subject my entry to the coin Gods who oversee the random generator. A mystery prize always sounds good when it is from you @lordmarcovan
Wow. I'm in. Love a Mystery!! I'm sure that whatever strikes your fancy will be great, and although you might like some interests, one never knows until they see 'the coin' which it will be. Also enjoy your visit.
Entry Post. I was thinking about a nice Morgan Dollar. Maybe with some luster. Just my thoughts. Thanks for the contest!
The prize is not a Morgan dollar. However, if you win the drawing and want a lustrous Morgan dollar more than the mystery prize, I can swap that out for you.
Mystery revealed! OK, it’s time to reveal the prize. Pickings were slim on early Type coins at the shop. Sure, there were a few Seated coins and a Flying Eagle and stuff, but they had issues. I settled on seven large cents that had just come in from an old collection. Note the crazy low prices on the holders! My dealer friend paid $15 apiece for them and is wholesaling them to me. Here’s the prize: The winner of the drawing will receive two (2) of these large cents of my choice. One will be from the earlier dates in the top row in the photo below and one will be from the later dates in the bottom row. That should easily attain the promised $35-50 value. So the prize is no longer a mystery. But if you have not already done so, you may still enter this giveaway by just saying you want in. We will have the drawing on or after August 21st. They’re hard to see in the picture, but they’re reasonably decent circulated examples with no major problems.
I wish to enter and I designate Russ aka @masterswimmer as my proxy as I know he will share any winnings with his grandson.
