What I love most about doing this lol... same thrill as gambling, but the worst you can do is just break even.

investment and time. But what is understated here is that the reward is in the process. Finding stuff is a bonus. Always hoping folks gain the benefit of both but hopefully accepting that the process (the hunt) brings the greatest rewards.

It's also like going to the local gigantic Sunday flea market near me.

It's a treasure hunt, costs $3 to enter and...what else am I going to do on a Sunday morning? Even if I don't buy much...it's the entertainment value that's definitely worth $3. My oldest son likes it too, so it's nice for the two of us to go together...he's about to turn 18, so adult time together is precious right now.

I went though more of the change I got off my friend. Mostly Dimes this time.
nothing fancy but I managed to get the following that upgraded coins in my set.
VF 1974, XF 1984, AU 1988D, AU 1999, and AU 2010D. I also found my first 2020D so filled that hole.

Last trip to the bank I cashed in $60 in coins from the lot and managed to walk out with 2 rolls of small dollars and a roll of halves so i go though them one of these days.

Picked up a couple of rolls of Half Dollars and found this in one of them. 1776-1976 S.

Went though the nickles from my friends change. It was only 2 and a half rolls worth.
Got one dateless buffalo, A 1940 in VF, a 1970s in VF, and a 1966 in VF which upgraded the coin in my set.

I've been on a lucky streak in roll hunting recently. This week I've gotten 10 40% silver halves, a 1992-S clad proof half, and this:

The photos are an abomination, but this is an unplated 1985-D cent! It has environmental damage and AU details. Generally this would be just a corroded Zincoln but the color is too off to be only that.

Not sure of the value but it's likely my rarest find while penny hunting.

That's quite the circulation find . It will be interesting to see what other's on the forum will say for the value , i have 2 or 3 myself. Keep hunting !

I found one of those before. Does yours have a grainy surface? People sometimes chemically remove the copper plating. And that's what happened to mine.

It may be considered grainy, depending against the amount "zinc rot" it has, which it sadly looks to have a lot of.

Here is a picture with light hitting it.

    Yeah, it looks chemically altered.

Probably is. I'll take it to one of my LCS's and see what they think about it; if they say the same thing, I'll likely just keep it for the novelty.

In my fruitless search for a W to complete the 10 coin set (I need 2 from each year.)
Gf brought home a few rolls and this was in the 3rd roll. I think it is Type A.

    Nickel box #28:
I think it's honestly at the point where I might just buy the last 2 Jeffersons I need (1939-S & 1944-S). This is still fun to do, but there's less and less to find.

But still found some interesting things:
    1936 buffalo nickel
    2017 Panama 5 centesimos
    2009-D x 2
2024-D (keep hearing 2024's are worth saving, so I still do, at least until I have a roll worth)
A 1960 in pretty decent condition, so it upgraded what was in my book

    And these other pre-1960 finds:
    1940
    1940-D
1941 x5 (so many 1941s for some reason lol)
    1946-D
    1952 x2
1952-S (kind of instinctively save most S-minted ones)
    1953-D
    1955-D x2
    1956
    1956-D
    1957
    1957-D
    1959-D x2

Well I turned in the 2 rolls of halves I had and got 2 more. This isn't a coin to "retire" on, but it was unexpected since these were only released in mint sets. Thanks to whoever broke a set apart.

    afm1982 Miami has the Dolphins...

    I think I scored someone's nickel collection. Got 4 customer rolls. A total of 51 pre-1960 nickels. Of note was a 38s, 39s, 42d, 48s, 50, a 1928 Buffalo, and 3 war nickels.

In the rolls were a mix of nickels from the 70's, 80's, 90's and even more moderns. So not quite a straight collection.

Filled a bunch of holes in my folder (although the 50 was a duplicate). If anyone wants to trade for the 50, please dm me.
