Thanking about purchasing a 1 oz. vintage Engelhard gold bar and was wondering if there was a site to verify serial number and markings. Thanks
AllEngelhard.com But looks like gold is a work in progress still. https://allengelhard.com/au-bars-ingots/ But not an individual bar database that I know of. Post up a picture. If the serial numbers match and it's still stapled, probably a good chance no one has messed with it. If it's close to spot melt price, Jump On It.
Thanks for the reply! I could not find any info on the net only for silver bars. Did the sigma, magnet, and cut it out threw it on the scale all seemed good.# match as well. Can never be too cautious!!
Looks like someone had this bar as jewelry in a bezel? Looks good to me, but yes trust AND Verify. Normally on an uncirculated condition bar, If you put the staples back in? Try and retain the original staples and put them back in the original holes. The packaging adds to the collector value.
Those staples make me a little nervous, for sure it would cost the buy back premium because it was removed from the original packaging but more importantly what was inserted back inside ?
There was an older vintage Engelhard 1 gram bar in original packaging that sold on eBay today @$385. That works out to about $12,000 an ounce
Great for the seller, I have a few like that...if I could pull that kind of money from them I'd consider selling. Seller has another one listed outside already up to $330. Someone really wants those...so tempting to go dig out a few at those prices.
