Alright @SensibleSal66, Round 2 is now open:

    CTF Giveaway 4, Round 2

    Donor: @Kasia
    Shipping Availability: United States

    To enter:

    1) Just say you want this prize.

    2) Post something else coin-related or cheerful.

If you win, we ask that you please post to this thread later, after receiving the prize, to thank your donor, and also so that we'll all know you got it.

Alternately, you may enter on someone else's behalf if you prefer. Simply name the person you'd like to receive it.

    The random drawing:

Should take place on or shortly after Saturday, May 17, 2025. If I should happen to be absent, you may assume the contest to be open for entries up until the time I return and announce the drawing.

    The prize:
    @Kasia has generously offered:

    sc combo shinplaster 25 1862.jpg

    sc combo extra items.jpg

One shinplaster, two coins and 4 interesting old magazine articles.

    Of the prize, @Dafydd says:
"The main item is a June, 1862 fractional script (Shin-plaster) from The Bank of the State of South Carolina for 25 cents. It has a value of about 50.00 or thereabouts. When I saw this at the show, I liked it for both the amount the guy was selling this for and the condition of this piece. I don't grade or collect
these, but to my eyes, it doesn't have a bunch of flaws and was not folded or scrunched up at any time, which is what I was going for. A good looking item which might attract some interest to the contests or spark some interest in someone on CT who collects coins but also might be interested in other parts of the hobby.

With it I am going to include 4 articles from magazines (the ones I've found as freebies mainly, I've gone thru and saved various articles)

    1) "Book Before Note" by Wendell Wolka, Coinworld Apr 23, 2018; Very short piece about two references books on paper money
    2) "Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker" by Wendell Wolka, Numismatist Apr 2007; About collecting private fractional script
    3) "Louisiana Dix Notes and the Dixieland Myth" by Heinz Tschachler, Numismatist Nov 2008; About the colored $10 bank notes issued in New Orleans during pre-Civil War and
    Civil War.
    4) "The Most Fabulous Set of Books on California Currency" by Bill Febuary, The California Numismatist Summer 2013; about the 4-volume set "Financing An Empire (History
of Banking in California) which had been published in 1927.

and one P36 2010 US Mint sealed First Day Cover (P&D) for the Abraham Lincoln Dollar coin. Coins were minted on the first day of issue, which was Aug 2 for the Denver coin
and Aug 3 for the Philadelphia one. These coins are circulation quality. Chosen because it represents the other side of the conflict for that shinplaster and it's coins."

    Important:

Kasia is willing to ship this generous gift to anywhere within the U.S.
If you are located outside of the United States, you are more than welcome to enter on someone else's behalf, so long as they reside in the U.S.

Let's not forget to thank @Kasia for the generous giveaway!

Ah, I see—I copy/pasted the layout and didn’t catch that. My apologies! Just to clarify, in case it wasn’t obvious, @Kasia provided the details for this giveaway. Unfortunately, I don’t have moderator privileges, so I’m unable to edit it now.

A nice collection of various numismatic items! Put my name in the hat please. Don't have any fractional currency but this was worth 5 cents, and it is paper.
