This a question for you all that been in this hobby for some time, Is this the best time in your life to sell coins, watches and jewels than any other time? its got be close.
If a fellows collection is based on gold & silver it is certainly prime time. Getting a little concerned over regular collectible coins though.
This is the best time for me to sell coins. It's too much to leave for my family to deal with. So far I have sold about 2000 coins. About 3000 to go. Even the problem coins brought good money. All the funds will be used to buy just a few high dollar coins that will go to my lady and our son. He has been learning the hobby from me for the past 30 years and knows what to do if they don't wish to hold them. Much of my plan was built around them not having to pay any cap gains. They will be fine and my lawyer and CPA will be there to guide them in needed. I spent many years planing the legal way to make this happen.
Larry, knowing your passion for your coins... and some of the very interesting pieces you have, this seems to be a difficult but logical decision. I've seen many of the coins you are selling, but I haven't seen any of the high dollar coins you're purchasing. If you're keeping those close to the vest, completely understood and respect that. But if you want to share... I'd love to see them.
Yes, it is. Mortgage rate 7+- Auto 6.99 +- Cash is King. Transfer of Generational Wealth INTACT and $ and Tax $ satisfactory transfer opportunity simply can not be dismissed. I'm with Idhair.
nope, not selling. Saving for Armageddon (although it is probably a futile thought) or for a time where we have to leave with only what we can carry.
I'd be selling any 'common' bullion value gold right now for items purchased more than 2 years ago (if I had any). I've sold most of the increased value silver junk/bullion already. I have some nice common world coins I could sell, but they're fun big silver coins I like having them around.
Not to me it isn’t. Yes prices have risen but at the moment it’s holding steady before the next rise in prices.
I have a bunch of vintage silver that I'd consider selling if I could get 3x spot or better. I don't know what I would do with the money though. Maybe generic silver and wait till $40oz I wouldn't mind have a new truck but $45/65k for basically the same thing I have now just 30 years newer and more electronic crap to have problems with Gold would be a better option but then again it's close to the high end so I sit, wait and do nuffin.
I was thinking of selling this coin, but my wife said no, hang on to it. This is about the third time I asked her advice. Gold keeps going up! I'm afraid to wear my nice jewelry in the city. You never know. Muggers everywhere.
I am still in buying mode, will be leaving everything to the kids and grand kids, have switched mostly to GOLD bullion to make selling easier, but with that said just bought both a high grade $500 and $1,000 bill.
Question? You follow Gold prices, right? Has there been a time when the price has gone down? Is that possible? I mean it's not like Real estate, is it?
GOLD has been pretty consistent as of late, right now its at $3,376.14 looking for $3,500 plus in the coming months
I asked someone this before but forgot. How is 14K jewelry valued in grams? I have some gold 14K, necklace and cross with diamond. Paid about $500 for them (19 grams of gold).
The big Raleigh coin show is next month. If gold continues to climb between now and then, I might sell some stuff. If it drops enough, I might buy some stuff. Most likely outcome: I do nothing.
I can only speak from my personal experience where in the past many of my sales were from direct contact at coin shows since 1949, as an assistant to a BM coin shop owner, where buyers/sellers were impressed with my Numismatic knowledge/salesboyship! In my opinion, we are in a terrible time period for Numismatics, where when I started, a publication of a competitive price brought contact from individuals throughout the world, where pricing wasn't a problem! I constantly test the markets by listing very desirable "loss leaders", at currently >25% below the often singular listings of competitively desirable Gold U.S. coins (e.g.: 2009 high-relief question)! Responders normally are past purchasers who tell me my pricing is below their best details junk! DUH, that's why we "deal", when others KNOW the offering has a "catch"! My recommendation is to learn what others might want in the future, possibly rather than your personal choice, before buyers are really indecisive, and your voluminous estate will be gotten by government, or the disinterested!
