I think the present value of gold is a disappointing commentary on the world economy.

You can paper over crappy financials (mountains of debt) for only so long.

Yep! Esp. when Govts starting printing currency, before if you had a AV Goldgulden in your purse, you knew its value was real. FIAT currency is only as good as the paper its made from. Then along came plastic (credit cards) and people went into huge debt/ along with loanshark type interest rates. Now the new kid on the block Cryto-crappola=fantasy $:banhappy::banghead: No wonder gold is going up and up!

As I understand it, $3,000 was the major resistance line (call wall) and now that it's breached, there isn't much resistance until about $3,500.

My ticker kinda misses a few beats when metals are valued this high. While my hoard gains in value vs fiat, it shows that confidence in the future is lacking.

And THAT is the most egregious aspect of the price of Gold.

It is no different from a Stock Market purchase. The People have been convinced that economic Fear, as a tactic for control of their personal life, is acceptable and the ONLY basis for making life decisions.

MPCUSA, take a Fear Bow.. You have earned it.

As much as I hate to say it, "gold/ silver/ platinum/ paladium are vastly undervalued. However, the $3000+ price is awfull for collectors like myself who collect only AV coinage:( I have 1450 AV/ EL coins, it will hurt my chances of adding more. Of course the crappy C$ does not help either. UK/ EU/ US collectors at least have strong currencies! Our inept Liberals under Trudeau destroyed our economy. Under the Conservatives the C$ was higher then Greenback!

I don't know what AV/EL coins are, so the rise for me is just fine. But I understand what you are saying Panzeman

Time to sell all your gold jewelry into this market that is not absolutely 'precious' to you.

I bet Sauron would even sell The One Ring in this gold market. ;)

Wish I could get this wedding ring off my finger. At this point I would have to cut off my finger!

My wife and I are pragmatic enough that we'd probably consider selling our plain wedding rings for the cash and simply get some basic non-gold replacements. They are just symbols...easily replaced.
