Okay. I did look them over but didn't see ANY?? Maybe it's just me?
Besides, I use a cane and go up the ramp when available.

 

Finally got around to this...
1,2, & 7 were my "no" votes
3,4,5,6,8,9,10 were my "yes" 5 steps votes

1 and 2 were the ones I was most confident about not being 5 steps based on too many "fused" areas.....7 I went back and forth but ended up saying no based on the scratch under the third column (I would not be surprised though if this one got the full steps)....8 was the only other one I was debating; I decided it just made it....the rest I was fairly confident would get full steps (given that we are only looking for 5 and not 6)

 

I check the forums every so often, but I'll be honest... I've been taking a break for a couple years now. I haven't posted regularly, I haven't bought many coins.... I still like you all, and I still like coins... I've just... not been present. I'm really sorry.

There are a few personal reasons that I don't want to get into now. I hope that I'll be able to be more active in the future.

I HAVE HAD IT WITH NGC, THEY WILL NO LONGER GET MY JEFFERSON NICKEL BUSINESS, HELLO PCGS!!!

 

The reveal for coin #10 has been shown, and the evidence is clear, NGC has no idea how to grade Jefferson Nickels. Of the 10 coins, they only awarded one (1941-D) with full steps. All you need to do is look at the results of the poll to see how ridiculous that is. I mentioned a twist throughout these threads and @ddddd & @kSigSteve figured it out, I cracked out every single coin in this thread and submitted them to PCGS. My next post will be to compare and contrast the grades given by NGC vs PCGS and see how much money they almost cost me.

If we consider that professional graders are experts, and the experts at NGC and PCGS can be this far apart on just 10 Jefferson Nickels, it shows very clearly the inherent subjectivity in coin grading.

 

@Lehigh96 it looks like coins 1,3,7,8, and 10 were the winners, with 7 & 8 being the best and making the whole order worth it at PCGS. I'm a little surprised that 1 got the FS and that 4 did not.

 

The reverse of 38 is much easier to get full steps. I expected #1 to be FS, and thought #2 had an outside chance. I have no idea why both services skunked #4, it looks like a cut and dry full steps to me.

When I submit Jefferson Nickels, I almost always submit coins that have a shot at full steps. NGC gave me 1 full step coin out of 10, and the one they gave full steps to, they undergraded. A novice grader would look at the 41-D in hand and know that it was an MS67 5FS. The only coin I thought PCGS was hard on was #4, but considering what they did with #7 & #8, I can't be anything but thrilled with the results.

The worst part is that these 10 only represent the tip of the iceberg. We all know about the phantom wheel mark on my 1943/2-P that PCGS ended up grading MS66FS. Then there is the 1983-P MS68 5FS that they called a partial error making it ineligible for the registry. That coin is currently at PCGS.



And this is to say nothing of the stack of MS67 war nickels that should have full steps but don't and I am leary of cracking them because I am not sure they will get MS67 from PCGS.
