Stopped in at the LCS today after work. 2 oz Scottsdale stackers were $59.75, older libertads we’re $39. Huge premium on the libertads but I love the look of them and don’t see them all that often so I had to get one. I didn’t even ask on ASEs, but I did hear another local dealer was charging $45 sometime within the last month. I don’t remember exactly when that was.
I'll bring up the weekly deal on Apmex again. They have 1 oz silver coins for $28 or $29....that would be phils, brits, maples and the like...their choice. Now, I'm not a buyer at the current premiums, but considering the current premiums that isn't a bad deal....especially when you consider generics are the same or more money per ounce.
I think this thread could have, and I do think did, happen in 2013. Dealers, during a surge of interest, once they get the premiums up are loathe to lower them. I think the debt limit bill, both by calming markets and stopping student loan forgiveness, will lower the amount of "panic money" in the market. This will force premiums back down. It will take time like it always does, fresh product hitting the market for a few months before dealers reluctantly are forced to lower them. Newer stackers, please take the long view. PM is a great contra asset IF bought opportunistically. I posted here in 2018 that it was a great time to buy. Low prices, low premiums, buying when no one else wanted to buy. Do not forget pm if it cools down. In cool markets is where most long term holders acquire their stack, not when it's hot.
If anybody could buy directly from the U.S. Mint, the premium on ASEs would fall to 10% or less within days.
It seems that premiums are now coming back down on ASE's. About a month or so ago I recall them in the $35 and over range, now under $30. While spot is still in the same $22 to $25 range...
Anecdotally I have seen the same, (not active in the market). I see the same for premiums overall. Usually happens in any type of "panic", market prices go up along with premiums, market price goes back down but premiums are much stickier for much longer. I think it was 2014 most premiums got back down to normalish ranges again.
I didn’t realize premiums on the ASEs have come down that much. I’ll have to check them at my local shop next time I go in. Might be time to finally add a few to my stack.
I just do what you all LEARNED me here. Buy the dips and have been trying to figure that out for years and I have realized some. Never say never going to see 17.00 silver in the next three years. hold me to it.. hell may die before then will be 73 in three.
Stopped in at my LCS yesterday. Silver eagles were $28.50 each, generic silver rounds were $25.75 each and 90% 18x face.
