You will find that both of those are very common in most states today. It is much, much easier to make things up, or search facebook or websites than research them. Jim
Seems like a similar thought was on a Twilight Zone episode when some men were fighting over gold bars and they killed each other off, wish I could remember the episode!
Wow, just read this thread. I thought I had missed something new. Last I heard was that elements were unconvertible to other elements unless by radioactive action, i.e. alchemy could never work unless the alchemists first discovered radioactivity. Did I miss something?
Ask @GDJMSP . He invented the perpetual motion machine but won't tell anyone about it. Maybe he'll tell you about how he makes gold. He is the original primordial ooze afterall.
I can hear him talking to the object of his desires now . . . what was that quote? Oh, yeah . . . George McFly . . . "You are my density".
Thanks so much! This short post really gave me so much to think for days. I did not know about the radioactive issues connected to synthetic gold. And I certainly did not realize that in case we reach a technological level that enables us to generate cheap massive energy to create gold, then our world would be unrecognizable due to the limitless cheap energy. Fascinating to think about it.
Alchemy = the discovery of a universal cure for disease, and the discovery of a means of indefinitely prolonging life. You might 1st concentrate on discovering a simple Cancer cure, before creating Gold through alchemy! As a practicing scientist, I'm not too concerned about you or others of your ilk degenerating the value of my Gold. JMHO
I like reading your reply's, but I got to look up the meaning of some of the words. Ilk ...... get lost easy and I butcher the pronunciation.
By virtually any applicable standard, that is a rather limited, if not distorted definition of "alchemy".
Thank you for your limited knowledge/understanding/correction to a maybe lesser/incorrectly informed individual, who has only achieved highest annual state S.A.T. score and a 4.0 G.P.A., but correctly admits stupidity? ALCHEMY MEANING: alchemy noun al·che·my ˈal-kə-mē Synonyms of alchemy 1: "A medieval chemical science and speculative philosophy aiming to achieve the transmutation of the base metals into gold, the discovery of a universal cure for disease, and the discovery of a means of indefinitely prolonging life!" I may stand corrected, but I'm glad that some lesser informed may agree, almost verbatim!
Sorry, I do not agree, Alchemy was perhaps the best imagination of "magic" +religion and hope when there was none in science. Name one verified person who has indefinitely prolonged theirs or someone else's life more than a verified 140 years. People have wasted their lives and reputations trying to prove it. But every religion to their own belief.
We are in agreement, the statement was: "A medieval chemical science and speculative philosophy AIMING TO ACHIEVE the transmutation of the base metals" I, and WE, aim to unsuccessfully accomplish many things, but with my stupidity can't accept what I now consider impossible. Who knows if others are more correct, I'm just agnostic! I'm still AIMING to upgrade my MS 1889cc Double Eagle to a MS68! JMHO
