rte: The bottom has fell out of the silver market here in Statesasota. I've got a pile of 90% that nobody wants at any price. (Well, I'm sure a few would pay face value.) Gold bullion still sells as easily as it always did. But silver bullion collects dust. I've backed off quite a bit on buying. Lots of people want to sell, but I tell them that nobody's buying it, so I can't afford to sit on it for a thousand years. 90% got all the way up to selling like hot cakes at 25 times face. Then poof. Nothing. longshot: Good to know stuff's still selling somewhere. I might have to drive to Kansas to get rid of what I've got! lol
That is why the coins were being sold on Craigslist, so that the product could be seen in the privacy of their vehicle, with every guaranteed coin being exchanged for an immediate cash deposit, beforehand! Here's an example of the best prices with no guarantees before taxes/shipping/etc.: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...t=0&LH_BIN=1&rt=nc&Grade=Ungraded&_dcat=39470. Legitimate buyers were coming from several states away to buy from the security of their car in a very public location, where security was "in place", from an associate retired police officer, who also is an attorney. We both have non-conceal/carry weapons in separate vehicles. Several were willing to exchange their collected Silver coinage for the Gold, at the pre-agreed wholesale market "sight-seen" prices, mostly U.S. pre-1921 Silver Dollars. All knew the price was great, relative to other venues, and some opted for a mail-delivered exchange/payment. Offers were received to "buy-everything". which only a fool would accept, considering the current gang activities of many separate parties raiding major department stores. The personal meetings were in a location some distance (~30-50 miles) from a major urban local. Several became "regulars" whenever I placed an ad, who knew I was an experienced collector of more than 70 years who was finally generally upgrading to CAC certified Gold, not a commercial "Dealer". JMHO There are options for serious "collectors"! JMHO
I believe, you and many others know there are other options than selling from a vehicle, driven without security, some distance. I, and believed many others would pay your stated 3% over spot, +shipping, for properly agreed exchanges of Fiat for Silver. The majority of my supply dealers, I have never met, but the experienced husbands attend international shows, while the wife makes the contacts/deliveries. I just sent a PCGS PR70 Dcam certified 1/10 oz. ~$600 coin to a wife I've never met in N.Y. city, as a surprise birthday present, after receiving a St. Gaudens Double Eagle with a GOLD BEAN, in Gem (~MS66 condition), certified MS61. The long-time supplier of "CACed" Gold Pre-1933 coins, who I've never met, talked, nor personally messaged, charged me <less than wholesale for that coin. I had just purchased a Green Bean, similarly graded coin for ~40% more from a dealer who had an unreasonable greater price for a considerably lesser quality coin on eBay for an extended period. It had 1 device nick ~.18" long x .03" deep on the left knee, without any "bag rub" (currently seen on MS67 certified), with lustrous uniform unblemished fields/devices on the Obverse, and unmarked to eye, Reverse. I was extremely elated upon receiving his gift, as was his wife upon receiving her "Birthday" never seen before present/gift. 1 experience, as fore-stated, makes my "hobby", the ultimate life-time positive experience!!
