Be honest, have you ever lost any of your coins?

I have quite a few times. First was my Grandfather's silver dollars, which was a long time ago, before i started collecting. (Here's the link) https://www.cointalk.com/threads/a-story-to-tell-you-guys.269306/
Anyway, During my time collecting, i lost my 1848 Large cent. I found it in my drawer though. What is lost currently would be my 1944 Spanish one cent piece, my 1997 lincoln die crack, and my extra peace dollar. (the blackish one showed in the above picture.) I'd love to know what you have lost.

I haven't lost any coins....but I did lose the key to one of my strong boxes that has a bunch of coins in it. It really irks me.

I lost coins during eBay bidding, does that count? Very painful :arghh:

In my token catalog I have one identified as lost but I'm not actually sure if I ever had it or if it was a mistake on my part by entering it in the first place.

I've misplaced tokens before and all but the one turned up. I got my life right and stopped doing it.

I lost a FSB Merc that went down a bathroom drain...actually not lost, just down there in the sludge picking up some monster toning for when I eventually recover it.

Thankfully nothing big, I once lost a raw ( but nice ) peace dollar. Bout drove me crazy looking for it. I still have no idea. And I once eventually found a loose world coin (not sure just what it was, but something worth enough to aggravate me ) in the compartment in the passengers door in my truck. I had pretty well written that thing off, figured it had gotten knocked out somewhere.

I lost my whole book of national park quarters for like a month. It was hiding under a pile of papers on my desk.
I also found a nice homestead quarter with a die crack. Don't know where it went. One day I'll find it though. One day

Not really. I have misplaced coins over the years, thinking I lost it. After panicking for an hour or two looking for it, it would show up.

Many years ago (when I was a kid) I had my coins out on the kitchen table doing an inventory. For whatever reason, I stepped ways. My big brother (you know where this story is going) walked by and took one of my cherished seated liberty dimes. I flipped out tearing things apart for a good hour while he watched, then he gave it back. I could have killed him!

The first rule of coin collecting: Don't lose your coins!

So you're saying, I can't trust you with my collection?? :woot:

That's okay as long as he brushes it parallel with the FSB's.

I am currently missing a '95 W dime, and a 82 no mint mark dime. I have a habit of laying coins on a table beside my chair and my wife has a habit of tossing them in a huge vase that I put my searched change in. I will have to search it all again if they don't turn up somewhere.

Yup, and still sick about it. Whitman Indian cent album and Canadian small cent folder with significant coins are both missing. Probably worth upwards of $300. Disappeared after a vacation when my son had a party at the house. I'm terrified one of his friends pawned them for a late night Burger King run. I still hope they will turn up.

Everything is in safes or deposit boxes now!

The die crack is probably in my bucket of pennies, the peace is in my parent's room somewhere, and the 1944 is in my room somewhere. Still hoping to find them, nobody touches coins in my room anyway.

I have misplaced coins over the years. Thankfully nothing rare or high value. Two come to mind as the most irritatingly memorable. One was about 10 yrs ago
I got a buffalo nickel back in change. It had the wear and tear of years of circulation, but a nice little gem of a find. I put it in my bottoned shirt pocket "to keep it safe". I finished my errands and went to get it out of my pocket and it was gone. It had escaped at some time during the day.

The other was about 5 yrs ago. I received a blank cent planchet back in change. It was very obviously new and I almost did a cartwheel when it finally registered in my head what it was. Sometime in the days that followed I believe it was inadvertently spent or rolled up and deposited in the bank. I at least was able to enjoy both for the brief time they were in my possession. I keeps me looking at my change. I collect coins and paper money for the joy of it. The unexpected finds are the best part of the hobby.

    Two 1999-S Silver Proof Sets.

My Mom and I were preparing to leave the next morning on a 7AM flight to Las Vegas for two weeks, and our mail carrier, making the last delivery until our return, didn't show up at the house until after the bank had closed. It was just my luck that my Mint subscription arrived that day. I didn't think it was any big deal because the house was 7,200sf and there were plenty of places to hide the proof sets.

Fast forward two weeks and we returned home. I couldn't for the life of me remember where I hid them. Nine years later, after my Mom had passed and my brother and sisters cheated me out of my share of Mom's estate, I still had never found those proof sets.

Even though the 1999-S Silver Proof Sets had unexpectedly sold out at the Mint, I was fortunate enough to be able to buy a couple of replacement sets at a reasonable price before they jumped to $375 each.

I've lost a few coins. Accidentally used some nickels I was saving as culls to fill rolls.

    Twice.

This is what I get coin roll hunting when I am sick with a fever...
