Sure, but at least we have INTRINSIC value with gold coins -- bullion or melt value. So a repeat of the Baseball Bubble is a non-starter. The reason I mentioned demand is that most/many gold coins are interchangeable from the buyer's POV. Sure, sometimes a Libertad or Maple Leaf or Chinese Panda is a nice change of pace. But an ounce of modern gold is an ounce of gold. So while supply here is important, so is demand. What would be interesting would be to see who are the buyers for each of the national Mint's gold coins. I am sure most have their marketing departments knowing who buys their coins, domestic or foreign buyers.
Agree with what you are saying. It would be interesting to see who the main buyers of government minted coins. As far as Mexico goes, I believe the Libertads are purchased by distributors in the USA and that is how they get here. I don't think you can get them direct from Mexico's Bank. Of course if you could, you may have to speak espanol!
Bought 2 double eagles so far. Next year I'm getting eagles, then half eagles and so on. Don't know about the 1$ gold coins yet, but may add them.
You need to have the anti-shake on.....brace your arms/elbows on the table to keep the camera steady. Is that a smartphone pic or a camera pic ? It's VERY blury.....retake under maximum pixel resolution with/out flash. They look like nice coins but it's tough to see !
Taken with a Finepix AX655, Cropped and resized. But I have been getting blurry results. Batteries are now dead and will get some in the morning as the roads are not the best right now. Barely snowed all winter, now it's spring and we've had two snow storms in 2 days. New England weather...
At the LCS I frequent, while gold was still down, they'd always have cleaned/worn and otherwise ungradeable US gold for a bit over melt - and I'd always pick them up. Lately they don't, but I always ask if they have any gold coins that they'd sell for around melt. This time he felt a bit guilty that the ones he usually had marked for melt were now priced as "coins" and not bullion. So he let me have this. I'm sure he paid 80% or 90% and made a quick buck. It was on his desk, so it probably came in the same day. I picked up what is called a Saudi Arabian Gold Trade Guinea yesterday. It's 7.9g and 22mm in diameter. I am seeing two stories. One that they were only made in 1950 and the other saying they were issued from 1950-1957. Either way, they are a "melt value" for now - although I am starting to see a few getting graded. They are a middle eastern trade coin. I'll post my Iranian that I picked up at auction as soon as the acetone wears out the glue that has it in the bezel... (cringe!)
This is an Iranian Gold Pahlavi. It's 22mm and 8.3 grams. The date is 1339 but that is a "Solar Hijiri" date and without getting too complicated, that translates into 1960AD. I think I'm correct on the date translation - if not, can someone speak up? Thanks! These were made in various denominations from 1925 until 1979.
The date on the Saudi coin is 1370 AH. That's 1950-1 AD. Struck in Mecca, it provided pilgrims with a way to convert their many local currencies into one universally accepted in the city. An odd echo of Jesus and the money changers.
I'm excited for the SLQ designed 1/4 ounce. I over paid on the mercury design but think I'm ready to buy at a better price point on this release (thanks to you all)... I hope. (lol)
Hello. I am new at this forum. I would really appreciate if someone could answer these question. Some questions may sounds really silly, but i am totally new in this gold investing thing and that is why I am asking. Thank you. 1. What is denomination ($1, $5, $100) in Gold Coin? What's the significance of this? 2. What is Sovereign Gold Coin, for example “Sovereign Coin of Australia”? 3. What is the weight of a 1 oz Gold Coin in gram when it is melted? 1 oz gold coin remains same weight of 1 oz even it is melted? 4. When a 1 oz Gold Coin is melted when how and how much it is valued? 5. Can ornaments be made for women melting The Gold Coin?
