In the spirit of full disclosure, I admit I am a 2014 entrant and I am a fully UNPAID volunteer shill for the American Numismatic Association and its events. But I think "stacking" is the dumbest thing ever, and "real" numismatics is diminished by stackers' presence near it. Yes, that is a MINORITY viewpoint at the ANA, but it is what I believe.

Inappropriate Kurt. Get a life... If you don't want to "stack" then you don't have to. Might I suggest one of the many COIN COLLECTING forums.

Coming here just to dump on others is really pathetic.

And if you're coming in here to tell me that I'm "ruining" numismatics because I choose to invest how I see fit to suit my life plan - you're the worst kind of person.

You can shut your hole. I'll rest on my track record.

I see it the exact opposite. I believe stacking adds a great deal to numismatics. It's a gateway drug that adds more people to numismatics every day by way of proximity. I bet a vast majority of today's numismatists started because they wanted to begin holding and understanding PM's

Aaaaand that "track record" would be what, exactly? Riding a declining asset, continually buying into it, for over four years in a row? You're not buying on the dips, Edited: Play nice, stop any insults directed personally

And what evidence would you base THAT on? I don't see it, and I attend MANY MANY major shows; ANA, FUN, Whitman, and next week NYINC. I see almost NO ONE at an NYINC who gives a rodent's rump about PM's per se. No, "stackers" are a breed apart, and apart is where they should remain.

It's common sense. Everything doesn't need to be quantified and I'm not saying that every stacker becomes a coin collector but it stands to reason, by association, that many do.

I came to numismatics after buying junk silver. Haven't actually bought any in a few years other than my ASE set but that's only one at a time.

Depends on how you define "stackers", I guess. The new wave, those who started out as vicious Fed-hating critics, are the ones I'm talking about. What chance is there that THEY become enamored of the artistic aspects of numismatics?
