so I had an ok experience with JMB the first time I bought from them (except a minor condition issue- since it was bullion I overlooked it). So I gave them a second chance- well their weird system of sending a PAPER CHECK (!?!?) through the US post office (!?!?) just failed- I sent the check (during holiday season) weeks ago and they claim it never arrived. they cancelled my order with no fees. I can't say they totally ripped me off but I still do not see them as a place I can do business with.
Noob to the forum but I have bought several times from JMB in the last six months with no problems. Always pay with MO through snail mail.
For what its worth, Ive done well with them. The only problem I've had was a minor bullion issue. I Didn't contact them but when they asked for a review of the order and said it was fine except for the bullion issue, they reached out to me to make it right and offered to either exchange the item with a prepaid shipping label or $5 off my next order. Sorry to hear this
I've purchased from them on numerous occasions. Never had a problem. Nice friendly folks on the phone when I call. The best way to send payment is a Postal Money Order sent via the snail. I do feel it takes too long for them to ship my order but then I do understand why. I just want it and I want it now. Sorry to hear you have problems.
They have an e-check system in place (it might not be accessible until you've made a couple orders from them, I'm not positive). Also, most likely the problem had nothing to do with them and the check was lost at some point in the mailing process. A lot of websites would try and hit you with a cancellation fee. I'm having trouble seeing what they did wrong here?
You're gonna bad mouth JMB for the post office losing your check? Did you think you'd get your order free? Wow, just wow !!
I know my date says 2005 but this is a newer account actually I joined in 1999. https://www.cointalk.com/members/danr.3715/ there was a software switch over in 2005 and some members had to create new accounts- sorry for that confusion.
maybe it is just the holidays but they were a bit rushed and not "nice" on phone. I will stick with Apmex
now my check is out there in who-knows-where land because these jokers want to run a weird system.. and that is my fault how?
Ouch. Sucks to be ypu but yea that's a post office issue not a jmb issue. I've had many orders with them always with a paper check with no issue. The time delay of receiving it is there but who cares, I own it from the time I press the checkout button. I think jmb actually did you a favor by not charging you the fees they state they can if they don't get the check. It was the holidays and your envelope unfortunately was part of the .8% (made up) that got misplaced or lost
A paper check is only one of several payment options at JMB. They offer a choice so that you can choose which ever method you prefer. Apmex, Provident, Gainesville, MCM, and others all accept paper checks as well. You are the one who chose to send a paper check. So why are you blaming them for your decision? In my opinion this reflects very poorly on you.
Whoa, no need to be harsh. He's just venting and misplaced his frustration. Sending a paper check can save big $ if the order is large enough. This is just a S happens situation
If an e-check option is not available from the dealer, I send all paper checks via my bank's bill-pay system. Its free and feels more reliable than me dropping a handwritten check in the mailbox. I don't trust our mostly contractor-based USPS system...
Ditto that. Paper check, the instructions and addresses change randomly - so you always need to be sure you have the latest / correct info. Never a problem with an order. I suppose it could happen, but things do get lost in the mail, and you can't fault them for that. Look at it as a win, bullion is down today. Re-order!
I put my check in an envelope and put the envelope in a priority flat rate envelope. It's there quicker, in a day or two max, which means less chance of a screw up and large enough to not get lost easily
they charge quite a bit more for paypal- Apmex through ebay takes paypal without the overcharge (if you watch for the sales)
I think you misunderstood. Their system put me in a position where I have an unaccounted for check floating out there somewhere. Yes it is their fault since there are many options such as taking a routing number and account number off of a check.
