Just saw this on Craigslist for Ventura County CA. Anyone want me to put them in touch with this guy?

    Huge gold & silver collection

My grand parents left me a huge coin collection they had in their home and today I got to see the gold and silver bars located in a local bank. 4 gold bars 6 silver. The gold bars look like bricks and also the silver ones. I can't seem to find them on the internet. I was told I think I heard the banker say they are 100 kilo per bar, tho I was overwhelmed by such beauty. There was also a lot of precious coins from late 1700's-1964. The banker could not say the value of lot but did say it is very expensive. I will post pictures when I go back to deposit box in 2 weeks. I also have a lot of silver and gold coins. I will post pictures once I research what the coin is and value. If anyone is interested in buying all for a great price please email me. No low ballers tho, SERIOUS inquiries ONLY. anyone with info on gold bars please let me know. I am a student and full time worker so please don't waist my time if your not serious. Thanks

That's one transaction I would do only in the lobby of a police station itself. Then I would see if I could pick it up latter when all party's involved were long gone. Maybe after a few days? Craigslist is like asking for trouble. IMHO.

Just did a little math - at todays prices the gold bars would be worth 4,097,280$ EACH! And the silver bars would be worth around 60,000$ EACH - assuming they are 100 kilo bars. Where are the Pawn Stars ????????????

    Just did a calculation for fun. 100 kg = 100,000 g (100,000g)/20 g/cc = 5,000 cc
now let's make the bricks or bars 4 inches by 4 inches (10 cm X 10 cm) and they would have to be 500 cm long (almost 200 inches)...dang, that's a LARGE safety deposit box.

The ad should read... "Please meet me at a place of my choosing, carrying lots and lots of cash. I'm in desperate need of robbing somebody. Only serious reply's only. I'm very busy watching tv and playing video games, while smoking meth."

I think the gold ones are one kilo per ea. as it makes more sense, congrats on your inheritance and after the sale, you're retired! I would drop everything and concentrate on clearing this up for now if it were me! Watch out for the less than honest"dealers" out there and best of luck!

Was reading about gold bullion bars and they seem to have to be stored in a bullion vault not at a bank to preserve their integrity to be sold without questions.

An offer of 1/1000 melt should be good...

    You dropped a decimal -- it would actually be 50 cm. 10 x 10 = 100, x 50 = 5000.

If any of this were real, that is.

Oh my, I think I need to take a trip up to ventura. I just can't resist a good Craigslist methhead robbery trap!

I say follow it. You'll know soon enough if it's a scam, and you might even be able to help out the police.

And if it's legit - maybe you hit the bigtime.

Meanwhile, dust off your CCW. :)

I actually responded to a Craigslist offering of coins and met a very nice man who was semi-retired and had some really nice coins...bought some Mexican silver from him.

Most people are good people. Unfortunately Craig's List provides a large arena for unscrupulous folks to congregate. Personal safety and situational awareness are paramount for anyone dealing with strangers this way. I've had my share of good deals, met some genuinely nice collectors...but...

I've been offered several fake coins, a few times they insisted they would sell to someone else (and so I'd do my duty and post that they were fakes), one guy that insisted he could only meet late at night in a parking lot near his house ( didn't trust $tarbuck's for some reason!?!? ) and needless to say I never went.

My horror story is one guy that thought he would follow me home and attempt to knock on my door and invite himself into my house around midnight. I sold him some well circulated 64 quarters for melt value and he paid in cash. I figured - good deal, I got paid, we met indoors and it was straight forward. There was no talk of an additional sale, and certainly not at my house. A few hours later he shows up and said he just wanted to see what else I had for sale (at midnight?). I said he should leave now and never bother contacting me again. He said he wasn't leaving and had more cash and "intended" to buy something more from me. It ended abruptly when he met Mister Glock face to face, spent a while face down on the porch and took the scenic route home via the local police.

    Life in the big city...
