I'm going to buy a couple of them. I'm bummed that I'll have to open a new PCGS account to get them graded.
I am not a fan of the obverse. Her face and the torch have no warmth for lack of a better term. The 1st analogy that came to mind is when you are house hunting, you want a house with good curb appeal. IMO - The obv. of this coin does not have it. "The 2015 American Liberty High Relief Gold Coin is the latest in that new era, a piece that renders contemporary designs using the latest in modern digital and manufacturing technology." Hope this isn't what we have to look forward to in the future. The reverse on the other hand looks really nice. Wish the designer could have left the same impression with Liberty and the torch. When buying coins (especially expensive ones) you want a coin that really grabs you and makes you feel that you have to have it.
I bought several gold bullion coins earlier this year so my budget, for gold, is shot until next year lol. Otherwise I'd probably buy one.
"The 2015 American Liberty High Relief Gold Coin is the latest in that new era, a piece that renders contemporary designs using the latest in modern digital and manufacturing technology." I agree, unfortunately that's what we have coming from the mint. At the last two Whitman shows in Baltimore an ex director of the mint said he was able to get a new policy through that states new issues will use modern designs not old ones.
Not interested, too uppity looking for my taste. Like I said in another thread, lady looks like Joan Collins, that's not a bad thing but it's just not to my liking. Pass.
We complain that the Mint designs aren't always that great. So we say that we want them to use the old designs. Where is the creativity in that? As much as I like the classic designs I'd rather the Mint try new ones even if they don't always hit the mark.
Seems to me that, with a lot of the things going on in the world today, Lady Liberty needs to be pretty assertive. I wouldn't want a subservient- or placid-looking Liberty. For the same reason, I've found the unchosen design with Liberty striding toward the viewer, bearing sword and flag, to be growing on me.
"For the same reason, I've found the unchosen design with Liberty striding toward the viewer, bearing sword and flag, to be growing on me." Does anyone have a picture of that?

This is the image on the new UHR coin: I prefer the Lady Liberty that jeffB posted over the Lady Liberty that's on the new coin.
Ok, Natalie Wood is way too good looking but somebody with that plain Jane look would work, like the daughter in 'Father Knows Best'. Oh, and she also played Andy Griffith's girlfriend back in Mayberry, anybody remember any of them shows? The actress' name is Elinor Donahue. What ya' think? Nah, nevermind, but we're getting close.
They tried a new design and a lot don't like it. I am referring to the new gold uhr. I classic designs better. Lady Liberty on this coin is too skinny.
