I do not have like an amazing best coin roll hunt, but I found 2 buffalo nickels in one roll and a bunch of foreign money worth over 5 cent except for the Canadian nickels.

I miss the good old days of half-dollar hunting while silver was peaking.

I sold most of the proceeds from that $30 buy for about $300 at the next local coin show.

Just about as nice as the first one, although smaller.

That bank dried up soon afterward. Based on my experience here and what others were reporting in the monster CRH thread, I started spending my hobby time on other pursuits. I still get the urge to cruise the banks for half-dollars occasionally, but I haven't done it in a long time.

If I were younger and had stronger eyes, I might be getting cent rolls and quarter rolls and looking for varieties.

My best score was about 3 or 4 year ago. I went into a bank and asked if they had half dollars. They had $40.00 worth of CWR. I bought them and when I got out to the car the first roll I opened was solid 1964 followed by the next two rolls. A total of 3 solid 1964 rolls of Kennedy's!! The 4th roll had a couple 40%er's in it.

Best ever? Last January, asked a local bank branch if they had half dollars, and teller said they had about $200 worth. Usually when banks have such large amounts, they're another searcher's rejects, so I typically only buy a few to see if they're clearly searched/marked. Nope. Bought $10 worth and all but 1 was silver. So I went back and bought the rest of their stash - about 2/3 of it was silver, including about 50 90%ers.

Best out of a roll? Picked up a customer roll at a BofA (usually don't have much luck there) that had a couple of 90%, and most of the rest was 40%.

Haven't done a lot of roll searching. Like barely any. But I picked out a nice 1959 Jefferson proof.

1969-s ddo last year (yes it was the real deal! Had a write up I coinworld and sold by heritage) and a few months back found a 1969-d type H quarter. Type H quarters (proof reverse, like the type B but with center lines in tail feathers, and rare as hens teeth.) found on 25% of 1968-s proofs and all 1969-1972 proofs, and on less than 1% of 1969-d through 1972-d.

Well we can shut this thread down now. I don't think anyone can beat a 1969-S DDO!! Wow! I remember reading that article. Congrats!!

I've been looking for one of those. Seems to be very rare up to this point.

My best CR 'hunt' wasn't a true CRH; in college, Friday suppers was always bunch of us frat bros @ a fish joint in Greenville NC - Fosdick's Seafood, ca. '79.

I paid mine afterward, and got 2 Silver Rosie's in change. Where's there's 2, there's a roll. I could see a BUNCH in the drawer. Got 47 more. I asked about un-opened rolls, and got 2 rolls of dimes, 50 each, SOLID, that she had right there - $10.

Talked to the manager, all I got was the bank, and a day that they got change. Call to the bank was unproductive...

    149 Rosies for face value......................

That comes out to something around 186.25. That was a good find. Did you talk to the manager of the store where you got them, see if he gets more you can split the profits???

Last August I ran across a few CWR in "old" wrappers from my credit union. All told they produced 62 war nickels, a few buffalos, and a lot of other 40s and 50s vintage hole fillers. Wish I had a picture of my face when I cracked open that first roll.

Not roll hunting, but my best find was back in the late 90's. I helped my uncle clean up a bunt down house and yes with the permission of the owner to keep whatever we find except for a few things the lady asked to be returned if we found them, sadly we didn't find them. To juicy part of the story, we both hunted the place for about 3 hours and found about 400 wheat cents. We half them between us both. From what I can remember the wheat cents were from 1920 - 1950s. I think I might have found a few teens, but as stated before it was nearly 20 years ago. I think my uncle may have found a couple of silver pieces too. That was pretty special to me since I got too spend time doing something with my uncle who is now in bad health and that is more wheat cents than most people find roll hunting in a years.

In 2011 I bought $360 face in halves and turned out 9 90% halves from 1943-1964, there were two walkers, two Bens and five Kennedies, but then there were also 69 40% halves.

Back in 2012 I got one whole solid roll of silver Roosevelt dimes in a CRH of about $600 in dimes.

I have had boxes of nickels that produced 12 buffalo nickels, other boxes that put out 7-8 war nickels.

A box of cents one time produced 75 AU-BU 1943 steel cents, and hundreds of other 40s and 50s wheats.

Customer wrapped rolls can be hit or miss, but I have found one FE and several IHCs in them. Also found both in BWR.

The only coins I never search are quarters and small dollar coins.

For awhile when dealing with just commercial banks I had issues getting large amounts of coin to go through. Now with several different credit unions I am coming to the realisation I cannot possibly search everything they want to make available, I currently have a backlog of coins to search through. I am starting to pass over searching cents because I just don't have time to go through them all.
