Copper is generally sold in Avoirdupois, which means 16 ounces to a pound. The price is given in pounds, so divide roughly $3.20 by 16 and you get around 20 cents an ounce. Which is a good price for a large copper coin.
I think any copper coin that weighs around an ounce for a quarter is an okay deal. Any more than that, and it has to be really cool or really old.
I bought two, but I'm not sure why. I had a five dollar bill and 2 for 5 dollars was the price, so I bought some.
I suppose... as long as you're not liking them AND buying for retirement because, well, one reason would trump the other, and it ain't liking the design.. Never say never...
I bought two once they were modeled after $20 Saints. I bought them to let my two children play with them versus a real $20 Saint. They turned extremely ugly extremely fast but copper is very reactive. Although I can appreciate the artistic look involved with a lot of the copper rounds I don't think they would ever make a good investment for the premiums involved. But they would be a good profit maker if you were a private mint or commissioned a private mint to make you a unique batch with a attractive design as certain people seem to buy them.
I just got a copper coloured coin from Mt Rushmore. It doesn't say copper so guessing it isn't - but hey, it's shiny!
I buy them because they say on TV coin shows that the ones they stamp in their basement will soon go "to the moon". They were saying recently on Coin Vault that copper was almost unavailable anymore so we should really load up and they have plenty of that rarest of commodities.
Why do people buy copper rounds? Why, because they roll nicer than copper squares, I guess. Also, many of them were conceived as a "thing" back in 2011, when the metals mania peaked.
Because like different Foods, Drinks, types of Coffee or Candy or Cars or anything you can think of that is one type of item that can have different styles to it as like a Coin people will buy it, pretty simple.
@Mr.Bellman wrong. Your wrong and always just bring down people and what they may or may not think based on some out of control idea's of yours. Copper Cents are everywhere in the Public Coinage Mr.Bellman for people to hoard. Copper Rounds are just one more item folks would like to have that's all,wow Mr.Bellman.
Now that was funny! Too bad kurt not around anymore.. Yes I know.. Old thread. But still informative!
