Here's a Chemical Engineer (runs a company and has an interest in wealth preservation) who also mentions your observation here..

Very calm academic tone without any emotional fluff or wild conspiracy spewing.
    I found it interesting.

    V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

Here is just one more point to sit and ponder: Can you imagine someone not intentionally skewing the conclusion and guiding the viewer down the primrose path using energy consumption as a substitute for GDP to describe economic output, without accounting for significant increases in energy efficiency? I can't, despite his calm academic tone.

Hey, maybe he drives an F-150 or an Expedition or an Avalanche, and it's outside his experience base, right? "Like a rock, ooooh..."

I couldn't possibly imagine that. Could you imagine stats on cost of living being manipulated?

Imagine it? Sure. See it? Nope. Truth be told, actual COL is so individualized that there is no one who actually buys the market basket of products used to calculate it. It's an amalgam that uses only MSRP prices, and ignores discounting. Imagine that, not counting WalMart. It's unAmurrcan, I tells ya'.

(Now how did I know the "the statistics are being manipulated" line was coming? Gee, maybe I read their playbook before, huh?)

Hahaha...perfect. One day, you just might understand that intelligence and education are not the same. You've made it quite obvious that you don't understand that now.

Thanks for playing along, it was fun.

Peace, instead of just spewing, how about you do a little research. If you feel the gov figures are manipulated, make your own "basket" up. Pick whatever you want, apples, laundry detergent, whatever you choose. Use the Interent to research past and present prices, do the math, and you will see the gov numbers are pretty close to the results. But you won't do that, will you???? You just "know" it.. right?

Mike, one thing I have noticed, and it is fundamentally unfair to Social Security recipients: the types of things most moderate wealth senior citizens buy tend to have price increases above the norm. Prescription drugs, groceries, low elasticity of demand things generally. There needs to be an "elderly lifestyle" CPI market basket.

How about you just use the items they used in 1990 vs 2015. I don't need to spew anything, they do if for you.

You don't need to take your formal education seriously to figure out this is nonsense. They changed the way it's calculated for more "elasticity", you should read that as ability to make the results fit your needs.

Best part about this entire thread...is the way V. Kurt talks to people. Must love the freedom to do so....online....from behind a monitor. Because some of us know with 100% certainty that if he acted like that face to face....he'd be spitting out teeth. Or worse.

Honestly, PP? If you truly see something sinister in that page, truly truly so, you are a more hopeless case than even I thought.

Your type's answer to everything and most endearing quality/personality disorder. By the way, I do act like this in person face to face. I even "get all up in the grille" of gold bugs on buses to ANA events. Ask Nachbar.

No doubt the inflation stick does not hit all people equally. Never has, other folks are winners though. The system is not perfect, but it is not rigged or fixed like the stackers just "know"

My monkey's brain, that was 2007-8. Why do hard metal people remember the past if it suits them and ignore any actual data. Is that an Austrian economics thing? The US dollar was down against almost all currency then, Remember the BRIC nations were going to be the world reserve, and China was going to have savings accounts in gold for their bank.( Check the BOC as to how it ended up keeping the peoples gold and giving back any ( little to none) gains in Chinese fiat. Check how that worked for Chinese bullionists. The 'Then ' exchange ratio was 39 Rupees = 1 dollar, now it is switched to about 70 per dollar, The USD is worth almost twice as much and India is having difficulties keeping the people out of the black market space, due to the dollar. The may 25 report is below. Send a note to the out of date economists to revise or remove his report.

Why thank you, glad you noticed. Yes, I can appreciate how the Bullion Investing section might have a dearth of educated people.

You're an interesting fellow there, PP. I take it your tag line below your handle is "ironic" in nature. If so, nicely played. Most angry people don't do so much irony.
