What should I do about these problem coins?

  1. Purchase a new set and swap the problem coins.

    28.6%
  2. Keep them in their current state

    71.4%
  3. Make a personal visit to the Philadelphia Mint and do an in person swap?

I don't understand what you want to do? You can't break an NGC holder to swap the coins out. The holder is no good after you break them. I'm confused. That 2014 Eagle looks great!

Make a personal visit to the Philadelphia Mint and do an in person swap?
This is even more confusing since the coins in question are S - San Francisco and W - West Point Mints

If you're not happy now you'll never be. Get coins you like. Maybe pay more and get ones already graded at the level you want. I don't think the Mint will exchange your coins for new ones.

It has nothing to do with the grade. The issue is the hortizontal scratches. Look closely at the fields in the picture... I mentioned this issue in previous post regarding 2013 Limited Edition Mint Set.

Were you able to see the scratches before submitting them?

I buy coins not for the holder, but for the enjoyment of the coins. I don't enjoy coins with scratches.

I just read your other thread and you said yourself that they seem to be Die Polish Lines. ???

Part of the rules for submission, "Unopened box from the mint"

It occurs to me that if they were indeed scratches then NGC would of given them a Details Grading, done by default and have the word SCRATCH on the label - I want to share this from the NGC website - http://www.ngccoin.com/services/details.aspx

    Regarding "Die Polish"

Look at the NGC Series Totals for the 2014 W Eagle. The odds of getting a "Die Polish Coins" are 50 out 30,000.

Two years in a row. It's like 1 in a Million. These are scratches from poor packaging and shipping.

Why not do as someone else mentioned and simply start buying the coins from a 3rd party seller with the grades you want. The mint doesn't guarantee that your coins will 69/70 so it's basically a crap shoot what you'll get when ordering. Might as well just buy the coin with the grade you want if you have to have them at a certain grade level and avoid the hassle altogether.

    @Andrew G.

I don't understand why you're complaining. You submit them "sight unseen" just so you can get that lousy piece of paper which states "LIMITED EDITION SET".

Geez, that makes the set worth a small fortune, doesn't it!

The "ONLY" limited item in these "Limited Edition" sets is the packaging.

Everything else comes from other product lines. Right?

If I were you Andrew, and I "really" wanted to have these coins, I'd buy them already graded and be done with it.

Yes. Once the coins are returned from NGC. I will post a side by side comparison.

I was most interested to see if the Eagle had a "Brighter White Cameo" or a "Better Strike".
