Just wanted to know if anybody is going to get any of the new Canadian bullion? I just bought the new 2006 1/2 ounce Silver Wolf. I would like to get one of the new Palladuim Maples but its a little out of my price range right now.
I might get one of the wolfs for the Mrs as she loves em but have not seen yhe pallidum Maple yet. De Orc
I stay FAR away from palladium and platinum. Down the line, you may have to do a lot of talking to convince a buyer that they're not silver, regardless of what it says on the bullion coin. The more recognizable and "common" your bullion is, the better off you are, when you need money; you may not have access to a chem test kit or a spectroscope to "prove" your palladium/platinum. It's hard to improve on silver dimes. A convenient denomination, no one has to "make change" for a silver dime, and it's not a tragedy if someone has slipped you a clad in a roll or bag. Yes, they are boring and ugly. My LCS likes to point out that today, a silver dime will buy a good loaf of (store brand) bread. Hyperinflation comes, and chances are excellent that a silver dime will still buy a good loaf of bread, and then you have accomplished your fundamental goal, preserving the buying power of your currency. Same theory for bars and rounds; if I happen to buy a collection which includes a few, they're GONE the next day.
I respectfully disagree. Silver takes up too much room, premiums are too high, and the chance of a store taking your silver dime in the event of hyperinflation is slim to none. A lot of folks buy gold and platinum because having hundreds of pounds of silver dimes laying around is not practical.
"premiums are too high" -- junk silver is by far the cheapest silver, by weight, that you can buy. "chance of a store..." -- but a thousand times better chance than them taking a platinum or palladium coin, LOL. "takes up too much room..." -- if a stacker can't afford a 10x10 safety deposit box, he's in the wrong business. A 10x10 box will hold about $1100 face and weigh about 75 pounds. Like many here, I would PREFER not to use a SDB, but have no choice, living in an apartment where nothing is really secure, and you really really hope the maintenance man (3 kids, $18/hour) is honest. There will be plenty of buyers for PM's if hyperinflation comes, if for no other reason than to arbitrage the gold-silver ratio. If society totally collapses, life won't be worth living anyhow. I have an app for that.
Kind of back on track - I note that the Canadian Mint is bringing out the third in the Bird of Prey series. It'll be nice to have a look at the latest one.
We are talking two different languages. I'm not a prepper so I don't take apocalypse scenarios into account for my PM purchases. I also agree with you, for that volume I would just stick to junk silver.
Me also - but not from Modern Coin Mart! I also have one of these coming. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-Unze-Si...58?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_77&hash=item5b0ac97162
