    Drawing (@expat won)
    Shipped 13 March 2023
    Winner's notice of receipt

This contest will be decided by a random drawing sometime on or around March 1, 2022, or shortly thereafter, depending on my schedule. Should I be absent, you may consider the contest active until such time as I return and finalize it with the drawing.

The enigmatic “QuarterMaster” from Quarter Notes, Ltd. (whose secretive identity remains unknown to me to this day) counterstamps short, pithy phrases- which amount to riddles or puns- on Statehood quarters, and releases them into circulation. Often the phrase has something to do with the state or design featured on the host coin.

He has anonymously sent me several rolls of his handiwork to distribute.

For this, the lucky thirteenth QN giveaway, we're doing things a little differently.

In fact, I just got an email from the Quarter Master:

    Hi Rob,

Here’s an idea for future QuarterNotes contests:

In addition to ‘Entry Post’, how about requiring that the entrant include a suggestion for a possible future QN counterstamp. They could select any State and offer their best associated inscription.

    Example: Hawaii ‘GET LEIED’

Just remember that due to the size of the coin, each inscription must be 12 characters or less, including spaces. People should try their best to be creative and clever, but the quality of their inscription will not be judged.

    The QuarterMaster

    So there you have it.

To enter, simply post your suggestion for a future QN counterstamp, as suggested by the Quarter Master above.

The prize this time will be a dozen (12) different Statehood quarters counterstamped by the Quarter Master, instead of eight like the past Quarter Notes giveaways.

There is also a thirteenth bonus coin. This is a Kansas State quarter (non-counterstamped), with the "RUST" error (a filled die which made the "T" in TRUST weaker than usual, and even missing on some coins). On this particular example, you can still see the T, but it is noticeably weaker. According to the sticker on the holder, the Quarter Master found this in circulation himself.

Good luck in the drawing, and have fun with the riddles. Also, maybe one of your suggestions will be featured on a future QN counterstamp; who knows? :)

I think a good counterstamp for a Minnesota quarter would be "LOONY". Maybe because of the state bird, or maybe because that's the right word for anyone who would want to live here. 1914BarberQuarterOBV.jpg 1914BarberQuarterREV.jpg

Being from PA you could use the stamp "GROUNDHOG" or "SCRAPPLE"

If you don't know what scrapple is, you're missing out.

I do know what scrapple is, and I’ll give it a hard pass, so no thanks.

To be fair, though, I’ve not tried it, and if you slipped some onto my plate without my knowing what it was, I might like it more than expected.

It’s one of those food items you basically don’t wanna think too hard about the ingredients of, I guess. But I eat hot dogs without worrying too much about what’s in them, so…

I was having a hard time getting started until I heard an NPR program on the radio Saturday taking my son to work.

And finally, let me apologize in advance for this one but it makes me giggle (and old men really shouldn't giggle):

“make sense” next to “cents” on the reverse of a nickel. So it basically says, “cents make sense”.

even though it’s not a quarter it’d still be cool.

But they are supposed to be cryptic clues, not obvious. The connection between witchcraft and word Salem, even though not THE Salem, is there if you are holding an Oregon coin.
    From Wiki
Salem is the capital of the U.S. state of Oregon, and the county seat of Marion County. It is located in the center of the Willamette Valley alongside the Willamette River, which runs north through the city.
