Pure silver or junk?

So I started coin collecting about a year ago and I want to add some silver into my collection. I want to buy silver but all companies that sell it atm are selling for $6+ over spot... I don't really want to pay that much over spot so, do you guys think I should just go for junk silver like pre-65 halves/quarters or should I just shell out a little more per oz and get pure silver? Also, will I be able to sell the junk silver I get as easy as I would be able to sell pure silver?

P.S I'm planning on keeping this silver for quite some time so I'm not looking to make a "quick buck".

    Thanks!

Hold out until the prices get in line with reality.

APMEX and JM Bullion run specials on bullion all the time. It might be their generic rounds or their own bars, but it's still assayed by them so you have recourse.

Just so I'm straight on what you want.

You started "coin collecting" yet you're worried that you'll pay too much over the "spot" price of bullion if you start "collecting" silver alloyed coins?

I didn't say I wanted to collect silver coins just to collect them I said that I want to add silver to my collection of coins meaning I don't want to over pay for silver if it's the silver I want and not what form it's in...

I'm not buying since I have no money, but if I were I'd be looking to get them at around $16

Way back about 8 yrs ago I was buying kind of heavy. When ASEs hit $16 ea. I stopped.
So in 8 yrs. of holding I gained nothing.

I buy and will never sell until TEOTWAWKI. I built my core stack with AGE's and ASE's. I have been buying Mercs, Walkers and Franklins and will soon add common date Morgans and Peace dollars. YMMV.

I like to get the best stuff I can for the lowest price. I don't like the rounds as much as I used to, so I like to get US or even foreign silver at below or around melt. Unfortunately the prices seem to be above melt lately...

I always get good deals with APMEX, and pay just a dollar or two over spot, unless I buy in bulk, which brings the price over spot down even further. If you buy from a B&M shop you aren't going to get a very good deal.

yes, sales tax and premiums etc, however having a LCS that you trust can be worth the extra effort and Monies.....
