Is it me, or are decent priced silver Libertads that hard to find??

I am out in California, and I love the silver Libertad Series. It seems as of late, that you can't get them for a decent price anymore. Not on ebay, not at coin shops or anywhere. Out here they Run for $25.00 and up. Heck, even at the Elecktra Banks in Tijuana, Mexico where they sell them direct to the public, they run $312 pesos at an exchange of about $12.70 x dollar they come to $24.56. That doesn't include gas, debauchery, or bribe money for said debauchery.

That being said, I think I got lucky at the Long Beach coin show. I found them for $22.00 a piece, and the guy had 27 of them. I offered him $21.00 if I bought them all and he sold them to me. I thought that was fair.

How is everyone else doing on the Libertad prices around the country??

Well, I love Libertads too and I have not found them cheap either. $25 is about the norm unless you are lucky enough to find a deal like you got. What year were they? And maybe one of the other problems is they come out so late in the year...the 2014s just came out and nobody is willing to discount them yet....meaning outfits like MCM, Panda America, etc. They weren't out at the ANA show in August. I am heading to the Vegas show next week and I sure hope I can find some at a good price. It's kind of the same with the Chinese Pandas. Hard to find them for less than $25 apiece.

22 from 1982. Two from 1983, one from 1985 and 1986. A real nice 2003 rounded out the pile. I might go to Vegas next week. Still deciding if I want to make the drive.

i gots to fly being in NC but we have friends out there to see too so it's a combo trip. Sounds like a nice pile of Libs. I grew up in Ventura County and spent a lot of time on the road to Vegas so I know what you mean about the drive. You can print coupons for free admission off the net. I had to cut and paste the ones with the Sept.dates on them but it worked just fine.

Yeah, if I go, I will leave about 11pm Friday after traffic, or early Saturday Morning. My buddy who has a coin shop might set up there, so I might have a chance to be behind the table helping him (Which I've never done)but should be exiting. We shall see. I bought some Numismatic stuff too that I sent in for grading. I hate the wait!! I sent in a 1921 2 Pesos. It should MS without a problem... MSwhat? is the question.

There are no Eleckra Banks, they are department stores, what is inside is Banco Azteca. And Banco Azteca is not really a "bank", as I was told. They make up their own rules, they don't follow the PM's market.
I live in TJ, and I buy Libertad's from Banco Azteca, 2013 in airtites, and I know those stupid chaparitas touch the face while encapsulating the coins with their bare fingers.
So anyway I check their website for the price everyday.

So if I visit San Diego and cruise across into TJ I can go buy them. I wish I knew that years ago...but that's life. ONly problem is I don't know Spanish so I can't read the site..lol. Don't you get current year Libs when you buy them? And what is the difference between Compra and Venta?

You are right, and I knew that because I too check the BancoAzteca website as well. I must've been typing to fast, or not paying attention. Yes, Ive seen plenty of Libertads with fingerprints on them. I've tried getting fresh rolls and they never have them. I used to go to the one behind Revolucion Street...I think its Constituion Street? Near the big Arc.

Compra is what they buy them for from you. Venta is what you have to pay for them. Believe me, the people down there speak more and better English than they do here sometimes. The last few times I went, they were various years. I might make a trip for some 2014's, but not fully convinced on doing it. Maybe if I knew I could get a fresh "Banco de Mexico" unopened roll.

I thought that I had a bargain price of £18.50 today (at an exchange rate of £1 = $1.61 that's $29.68) for a 2014 Libertad and last week picked up a 2011 Panda for a bargain £22 ($35.42) off eBay Uk after a bit of sniping. Maybe I should make time for a coin show in California next time I'm there.

Here's the Lib I told you about. The two dark spots on the obverse is where it got nicked, unfortunately. By the 1 and her waist under the wing. The colors are richer in person looking at the coin than it looks in the pics.

    Compra=s
Yes, there are two on Constitution, maybe more. Checked Casa de Monedas de Mexico* website, wow! a lot of beautiful coins. But they are out of the 2 and 5oz. Went to the Banco de Mexico website, and d/l their PDF on Distributors, went to the banks in TJ that are suppose to sell them, always "no". Now the highend bank Bancomer, they can order them for you, but you gotta pay $600mxn for delivery and IVA(tax), screw that. 3rd world country.
What's happening is our large US coin companies(APMEX,MCM,ect)order millions of dollars of silver, and the common Mexican gets the, "were out" outcome. Feel bad for them. Money talks.
Now, if you went to Mexico City, and walked into the banks, you would find everything you want. But the check points coming back by bus/car, I don't trust the Federal/Army. By plane, shouldn't be a problem, just the amount, $10,000 max?
So buying the Libertads 2oz, 5oz, Kilo and Proofs, it's eBay bidding or APMEX. I'll watch the price at Banco Azteca, last time I bought 3, it was $297mxn at $19.75 an ounce. Right now these fools want $322mxn, at $19.20 an ounce.

The 10K limit does NOT apply to coins, bullion or anything else. You could bring back 20K in Libertads and customs would not bat an eye. It's US money they care about. Gold, silver, etc in coins or bullion is unlimited. You don't even have to declare it. Jewelry, yes, you would have to declare.

I'd love to go to Mexico City and buy a bunch of new Libertads but I would be afraid of getting to the airport unmolested. Maybe you would be safe but how do you know a bank employee isn't going to call a friend and tip them off to what you are carrying when you leave the bank? Oh, well, back to work on being able to purchase wholesale from some of the suppliers.

Definitely come out for Long Beach. That one is three times a year. The Ontario one isn't bad either. Yeah 2014's just came out, they'll cool off after a bit. Unless the Mintage is low which it might since they just released them a bit ago.

Yeah, I hear you. I have found that the best place to get them is coin shows from dealers that are from Texas. They sell the Mexican Silver Coins at Melt. Libertads at priced like what I paid. All the Texas dealers say that the coinage there is cheaper. I got a phone number to keep in touch with these guys because they always do the Long Beach show. I bought 5 Peso 1947-1948 Cuauhtemocs for $16.00 (he only had 4) and the 1956 10 pesos .900 silver for the same price. He had about 500 of the cap n ray 1930's and 40's pesos for $8.00 and several hundred of the 1968 Olympic 25 pesos for $10.25. He would have sold those at spot or a few cents below spot if you bought them by the roll. I can't wait for the next show.

There are only two showrooms for the "Casa de Moneda" I want to go to the one in San Luis Potosi. A little safer, less traffic, easier to get to.

Yes, San Luis Potosi is closer, been to Culiacan and Mazatlan by bus $60 bucks.
Long Beach Coin Show, next time for sure, with FIAT stuffed in my pockets.

Hmm, I will have to pick your brain at a LB show one of these days. I was wanting to come to the show this weekend but decided Vegas instead since we just did ANA and we have a show here in Raleigh the weekend after we get back.

Well I'd like to pick your collective brains so a meet at LB next June would be good!
